Just one minor comment - Note, that when upgrading your front brakes and using decent tyres - your rear brakes start to lock earlier due to the fact that weight transfer in case of really hard braking becomes more evident. As a marginal example of weight transfer - rear wheels liftoff like this:

Do I need to comment what it feels like when your rear brakes are "overdoing it"? certainly ABS (thank God we have it =) will start earlier and compensaterear wheel lock, but still if i was upgrading the rear i would consider hydraulic pressure regulator to be installed, like the one they use in racing cars, so that you could cut the efficiency of the rear brakes if necessary. I'm not sure 'bout the MOT though =)

Don't know if this helps, but the part number in the states for a rear caliper carrier for an S8 with the 280X22 rear rotor is:

              4D0-615-425-C

The rear braking system labeled for that carrier is called:

              PR-1KW

              This is off a 2001 S8

All the findings I had with the '8E0' upgrade at the rear are on S2central.net - technical - brakes section. I think I posted up all the relevant part numbers.

                        Oh Dear!

just started to assemble my rear brakes as per this info. Sad to anounce that this will NOT work!
                        The carriers are miles out!
there is about 10mm gap between the hub & where the carrier needs to sit not 3 or 4 mm also the diameter of the S4 discs would have to be more lik 260mm rather than 280!
Only possibility is that all audi have supplied the wrong carriers but they swear they havent.
Clutching at staws in the wind here.. but I dont suppose ANYONE has a part number?
(the part number that is cast into the actual part I mean)

                        Old crap back on

Simon - post the part numbers you ordered and photos preferably - something is amiss. Its all bolt-on as per my info on www.s2central.net in the brakes section. Follow links out to the photoblog I host on my mac site - lots of pics there for comparison with the pure 8E0 parts and the eventual hybrid I ended up with.

The black carrier is the S8 one - looks like it has 'CD33' stamped on it if you some in one some of those pics.

                              think Ive sussed it!

Thanx Paul, I think I know what is wrong. All Audi HAVE given me the wrong carriers. After checking your part numbers & talking to Vagparts, I reckon I have the ones fitted to an A8 with 269mm discs instead of the 280mm ones.
Im awaiting a call back from All Audi .
                              Thanks for your help!

Somebody have an idea how this works?

I saw it in the Garage 2005 meet in Grag_S picture library:

Is that from an A4 or something?
