so what are my options as far as upgrading my brakes?
from cheap to pricey.
Some volvos and alfas (fiats) have 10x108 (5x108) stud pattern, which is quite easy redrilled to 4x108 (BTDT few times). This is regarding disks question.
Cheapest upgrade is to use 20v G60 brake upgrade with orginal struts from donor car. And you may use master cylinder from donor car. You get same braking performance as S2 has, which is not so loved on this forum.
Expensive upgrades include custom carriers for some calipers. I'm now using 996 monoblocks and Alfa 166 V6 disks (redrilled for 4x108). Disks are 310x28. This is not the cheapest way, because centre sections of disks need to be machined, and porkers cost quite a lot. Not mentioning, that whole setup is not fitting under R16 without 25mm spacers.
That's why I have designed "cheap alternative" with BMW 735 (E38) brembo calipers (~100 eur/pair) and volvo S60 305x28 disks (~100 eur/pair). And it must fit under R16.
However due to reasons, that I have both left hands, have lot of health problems and do five million projects at same time - it's still not implemented and tested on my coupe. Actually all measurements are done and sketches are already drawn on paper. Now only caliper carrier needs to be machined. Ant that's the hard part, because machininsts require drawings, drawings require attention and precision - I lack both of them .
