Brake splash shields??? Who still has them on their car?

After changing one of my front wheel bearings, I took a good look at the brake splash shield. All they really are a custom made pie pans designed to keep what??
Water or snow off the rotors?? I have BBK's front & back on my car and have oversize rotors so the shields really are not doing much of anything. Thinking of removing the rest of them.......good or bad?

They are the work of the devil... Bin them off - rusty looking stone traps that they are.

Here in Finland splash shields are required in MOT inspection.
