  • @ Lee about AP 6pot

    Hi Lee
I 've got a problem and i think you could help on this one. I have an RS2 and i am abou to change the front brakes. I found in Athens a two AP CP 5555 6-pot calipers for 1600 euro tax incl. They can accomodate from 343 to 362mm rotors and 32mm to 26mm. The guy also sells the disks (356mm x 32mm) for 1200 euro. What do you think of the prices?
My problem is : The disks come without the hubs (if my english are correct) and i have to have them machined. Do you happen to know if the hubs from the porsche brakes fir the AP disks? Which disks do you use? CAn suggest any site i can buy the disks that fit straight on to the RS2 so i wil only have to machoine the adaptors for the calipers? The disks from other audis don,t fit the porsche pattern (5 x 130), but does the bell or hub ( don't know which of the two words is the right one) fit ?
    Any suggstions welcome!
    Thanks NIck

It sounds like your man is making next to nothing on the calipers but the disk price is quite high.

I use the CP5555 caliper in 36mm version (a 32mm version of the 5555 is available). I currently use 360x32 disks up front from an RS4 but I have a pair of 362x36 disks which are awaiting bells to be manufactured.

To fit these brakes to an S2 or RS2 you need a bracket to interface back to the upright plus bells. Unfortunately, no-one offers these brakes off the shelf. I have designed brackets and bells for 7 different sized AP racing kits ranging from 330x32 to 362x36 in both 4 and 6pot guises. The prices would range from about 1800UKPounds to 2900UKPounds depending on configuration. The prices include everything (hoses, fasteners, bells, brackets, disks, pads, calipers, 2litres Castrol SRF etc). My designs all utilise floating disks...an implementation that permits axial and radial 'float' between the iron disk and aluminium bell to reduce stresses induced by differential expansion of the materials as they heat up. If you have a rigidly bolted bell to disk then you should deliberately introduce sufficient radial compliance in the bell to prevent warped disks.

The only component that would differ between the S2 and RS2 system is 2 dimensions changed on the alumjinium bell that supports the disk. Other than that, everything else would be identical.

Many people buy brakes for show so never find much problem with a rigid disk. If you are a hard driver and like your trackdays then you should seriously consider a 'floating' setup. The only downside, other than a slight price increase, is that they rattle a little bit below about 20km/h but this is no cause for concern.

You could buy a suitable Porsche-sourced disk and bell combo but you would still need a custom bracket. The prices I have shown are incredibly scary but buying the disk and calipers is only about 2/3rds of the cost. You can reducethe prices by specifying inferior fluids and pads as this is quite a large chunk of the price too. Bolted bells are cheaper than the floating bells since the AP-sourced floating fastener kits to fix the disks to the bells are over 40UKPounds per corner.

I also have a design for the rear which is awaiting some final components. This uses 330x32 disks with AP 4pots and Brembo handbrake calipers but I won't fit them until I have the balancing system sorted to ensure brake force distribution adjustment for setting-up.

If you need any further assistance, please contact me via PM.

    Hope this helps

There is the original AP formula kit which takes 330 x 28mm discs. Think I have a set of brackets for these knocking around somewhere, but not the bells.

I used BG Developments in Bromsgrove to build the kit I have fitted to mine

Hello Greg thanks for the reply.
You dont happen to have some kind of contact info or similar?
I sent a mail to ap also to see if they had any information regarding this.

You can use Porsche 996 429/430 with 330 discs.

Ahh yes but im after something in the line of 355 minimum up front and around 330 in the rear.
Preferably with 32mm thick disc in the fron and around 28-30 at the rear to be able to store the heat.

I remebered Lees brake porn thread from old and thought i would try and see if he could hook me up.

APs kitt for the RS4 seems to be about right but sadly it dosent seem that the mounting holes on the hub is the same between RS4 B5 and S2?

              AP kitt for the front.

If you used the RS4 as a basis you would need to get custom bells and probably carriers to get them to fit. I have 330 x 32 up front on mine which is the AP formula kit with the bells and carriers offset accordingly.

I probably have the drawings around somewhere and will see if I can find them

                  Ahh thanks.
Yes i was guessing that this would be the case.
I got a reply from AP and they directed me to BG also so i asked them to share info wit BG about this setup so we will se what the outcome is.
Please do share the drawing if possible. Thanks alot

                    Just a little update.
BG did a custom kitt for me
362x30mm discs with 6 pot calipers up front.
Great service from BG and reasonably priced also.
Ill post pics when i got them mounted.

1645 GBP exkl vat and hoses/pads.
so its a bit of a premium when you compare it to k-sport and such but imho its worth it.
I will post pics when mounted.
