    Weird Noise

Once my car is fully up to temperature I get a really wierd noise coming from the brakes. It sounds like the noise you get when you blow accross the top of an empty milk bottle.

If I press the brake pedal (even very lightly) the noise disappears but returns the instant I take my foot off the brake. Running over bumps and full lock either right or left seems to make it go away temporarily.

Its beginning to bug me as it is so loud that people on the street are turning to see what the hell is coming along the road.

I've had a look, but I can't see anything wrong. I've got the AMD Porsche 322mm kit with Turbo calipers.
Could it be something as simple as I just need to replace the pads? They were fitted in September last year.

I got this on mine.I think there are some shims that are magnesium(?) that sit behind the brake pad.Apparently over time, these stick/lift and stops the pad retracting fully which gives you the noise. The guy who cured mine stripped them down cleaned up the back of the pad and replaced the shims, i think. I could double check with him if you like.....

I get this too - I presume it's the pad not fully retracting back off the disc sometimes when you've braked, and so it rubs lightly and sets up some sort of resonance. It's annoying.

Check you wheel bearing play, It may be that causing a problem with pad drag ( and noise)

I had this with a mondeo rear wheel bearing.

My porsche callipers do this. It only happens when you aren't using the brakes very hard (like town driving).

After much head scratching (and people looking round in the street) we discovered that the pagid pads I have (standard RS2) leave big deposits of pad material on the back of the discs. This then catches on the back plates, callipers etc, and makes all the noise(which gets louder the slower you go)

I had the front wheel bearings changed just in case (and because I can ) and the back plates removed and it hasn't made any difference. I'm going to fit the RS2 backplates and air guides soon and see if that helps. I'm also going to change pads when I kill this set to a different compound.

In the meantime I find on mine if you give the brakes a good hammering it clears all the crap away and the brakes shut up.

I have pagid pads in my rear calipers and they leave deposits after the car has stood for a while.

It stood for a week and a half a while back and it took about 200 miles of driving to get rid of the deposit on the left rear disc. Really annoying clunking each time the wheel rotated that got worse when you braked
