I get this too, it seems to be perculiar to the A8 996 upgrade and i am pretty sure its the pad not moving back away from the disc enough. I haven't had it much recently and it seems to go away if i clean the wheels with wheel cleaner and a jet wash but if the pads are ferked anyway i would fit new and make sure you clean up the guide pins for the pads thoroughly to allow the pad not to rub on the disc.

Dont use copper slip you need PLASTILUBE this is what the dealers use and this
cured my humming ,apply to the backing plates on the pad after a good cleanse
with brake cleaner http://www.wak-tt.com/tt/tt_docs/bra...al46-97-01.pdfsigpicComment

This is the bane of new RS2 drivers with original brakes & upgraded S2 brakes. The key is the pads need to be secured to the backing plates. On OEM RS2 brakes there is adhesive that sticks to the back of the pad. Many fitters forget to remove the protective paper and you can watch for it appearing over the next few weeks out of the caliper. This is often because the porsche mannuals talk about 'dry' fitting pads. This works of course if you remove the bl**dy paper & secure the pads.
Copper slip gives a temporary fix but as you can see plastilube is longer lasting.Alastair

Rumbling/Humming when Braking....
So let me get this right. When I put my brakes on, and in the last 2 seconds when come to a stop.........the rumbilng of the brakes (like ive hit ice) is because my brake pads dont have the sticky pads on? Is this right? Surely not?

Yes, the pads need to be "stuck" to the backing plate, so that they step back with the piston a fraction away from the disk....The Perfectionist

I have just pulled the speed sensors out from the front hubs, sparyed carb cleaner inside, and plugged them back in, and the rumbling noise and feel has gone EUREKA!!!!!Comment

Someome mentioned to me that the humming of the upgraded brakes is indicative of wheel bearing play, albeit slight. I have had allsorts of noise from the porche front brakes, and have changed pads with no difference. My front n/s bearing showed up a rumble the other day, so I will be doing the change shortly, and will keep you posted!!!Comment

No the noise comes when off the brakes as the pads fail to clear the disc if not secured to the back plate. Causes a mild vibration/hum that goes when you apply the brakes.Alastair
