  • wrong brake discs - parts nos please?

Morning gents. anyone know the proper part number for the rear discs on a 3B? I got a pair from GSF on friday, stripped the brakes on saturday and the bloody things are about 10mm too deep and fit up against the dust guard. GSf said they'd check it out on monday but that's what my chassis number gave them.
So if you know the correct part number i'd be much obliged if you could furnish me with this information
    good show

Don't have it to hand - look up brake section on s2central.net

Watch cos the newest part number actually has an 8E0 prefix - these discs are common with some B7 platform.

thanks lads. I should have gone straight to your site paul but i went for a swift post here instead in the hope that the likes of Jase has nothing better to do than wait for me to ask this question.
Also much easier to operate the forum in a tiny browser window.

maybe I can piggyback another question on here for you learned fellows?

I was going to change a rear caliper for a spare on saturday. the ones from my other coupes all have the inlet for the hose in the back of the caliper (back if you're sitting on teh ground looking straight at the hub) but the original one has the inlet at the top. I'm pretty sure the replacement would do the job ok but the bloody hose is too short to reach lower so i'm stuffed.
Are the calipers inetrchangable? Should i get one the same as the original or try to change that brake hose for a longer one? It doesn't need changing otherwise. it's in good nick.
So much for a quick change of the discs and caliper on saturday morning.

I need to bleed the system again I think. with having the caliper off I reckon I got air into the system and when I tested the brakes I had to pump them a few times to get them stiff but they went soft again in a couple of seconds. am i right? is this just air?

I just want it MOT'd so I can take one of these nice saturday mornings and drive north, giggling like a japanese schoolgirl at a hasslehoff gig.

If the piston is right size and the handbrake mechanism bolts up then I spose you could use the wrong calipers as long as you can get a hose the right length.

When bleeding the rears... Keep the handbrake OFF !

that's what I was thinking. I just can't be bothered with changing the hose. I wonder if anyone has a caliper kicking about? think i'll post a wanted.

I'll make sure the handbrake is off by the way. I read your thread just before I bled my whole system and had that firmly in my head. haha.

What are the flexi-pipe from the other coupe like, they must have the length in them i take it to reach the bottom of the caliper?

Thing is - I reckon thats a rear caliper from an FWD Coupe which is mounted on opposite orientation to quattro coupe... WOuld be weird to have a hose at bottom of caliper... Reckon its top from t'other side when you swap the calipers over.

Steve - I thought about that but am reluctant just cos I can't be bothered. Looks like I might have to though.
Paul - Although the caliper comes across to the opposite side the ones I have from the FWD cars have the hose connect at the back, kind of facing into the car if that makes sense, rather than pointing upwards or downwards

Jus remembered - I have a pair of stock rear discs you can have for price of postage if it helps... They have less than 1000 miles on them - needed 'em to get thru MOT before I fitted the bigger vented jobs at the back. They look tatty cos they have sat around but they are fine for use.

aww christ on a bike. I'm just back up from the garage after fitting new ones. haha. But I really appreciate the offer mate, thanks.
GSF sorted me out the correct ones with the part number Jase supplied. Had them in stock so I got them swapped over during my lunch. He said it's a bit weird cos the audi system he used recommends the other discs. ah well. he gave me them for £12 + vat each so all good.
