    345mm A8 brakes fitted

I've been tinkering this week and I finally managed to get the Brembo/D2 A8 345mm brakes fitted. I was previously using the 314mm A8 discs that I bought from another forum member along with some Hi-Spec calipers.

The stopping power is now absolutely frightening. At least I know I'm more likely to get rear-ended in an accident that hit someone! I have the Hi-Spec Monster 4 calipers and Ferodo DS2500 pads.

It's also important to note that using these calipers the discs fit very comfortably beneath my 17" Avus S6 wheels with a 35 offset. I don't know what the clearance would be like with 996 calipers but there is a fair amount of room so I imagine it shouldn't be a problem.

Definitely a worthwhile upgrade... S4 330mm rears are next on the list

The 345 disc will not work with the 996 caliper as radially it is too big, you end up with a pad overhang or the caliper fouls. 340mm is the largest that the 996 caliper can take and get full pad contact.
Or you can remachine the caliper for more clearance but strength becomes an issue.

Is there an off the shelf option for those 340mm discs to use with 996?
Would like to go for them when I replace the 323mm next if it is a straight swap.

YOu could just take that same 345mm disc and get it spun down to 340 on a lathe - cheap and easy job for any machine shop. At 30mm deep, the 996 mono pins will need to be squeezed out a tad or machined down to accomodate that. They are setup for 32mm disc on Porsche apps.

Good work Ben but did you find the 314s lacking on track? I try not to seriously overwork the brakes (although they certainly get used) so have not had issues with my 996s now that the DS2500s are on there (although I set them on fire at Combe but that was down to a lose carrier bolt!). Textars and old bomb was useless though! Have you got a new bomb on there? Makes a good difference if yours is knacked.

I woudn't say that the 314s were lacking but they were ready for replacing (I bought them used). I have literally zero history with my car so I have no idea what works it's had done, but I did the bomb test and it appeared to be OK.

I bought the 345s because I decided not to stick to the 16" wheels, and I also thought it would be wise as I want to go for the 330mm rears which would look odd and perhaps perform rather strangely with a larger rear disc than front disc.

Corey - I think I am right on the limit with the Hi-Spec calipers to be honest.. there is a tiny bit of overhang in the middle but it is negligible. Nothing to worry about though is it?
