    Upgrade bearings?

    Hi all

Nearly at the stage for fitting the big Movit discs and 4pot calipers to the S2. (been in the box in my office for far too long!)

Is there an obvious upgrade for the bearings (wheel hub) or would it just be advisable to fit new like for like replacements?

It is not like me to think about this before I fit something, normally I'd realise several weeks later!!!!

Cheers in advance for any advice

Just fit some new ones. £45 each and buy the kit as it has the replacement pinch bolts. I don't know of any upgrades but the OE hubs are a poor design IMO as they rely on the through bolt torque to hold them all together... They also weat out on the S2s with spirited driving.

Yeah, they dont last long, especially if you have wheel spacers.

Are your bearings actually shoot? or are you just replacing them while you do the other job?

It's a good thing to replace if you're fitting solid callipers and discs as there's less give in the brake setup and you get rubbing then noises... BTDT, that why I replaced mine.

They're alright. Just need to take your time. Might need some heat to get the remains of the bearing off the stub axle though. And make sure they're teh right way rouand and fully home, I've had 2 separate places get this wrong...

Nice one chaps, you see, i knew it was worth asking.
I'll order a new set tomorrow now.

To answer the Q, they don't really need changing but its one of those things that I'll know I wish I had done. With everything else being new there, and now I have your answers, its a bit of a no brainer for me now.

              Thanks again

Centre bolts are a 17mm allen key and require 200Nm + 180degrees from memory... you'll need a pretty substantial breaker bar, the 1/2" drive ones bend too much, better to go 3/4" or 1" drive with a step-down... HTH
