you can get that short pieces of hardline around the strut made up at your local motor factor for a few quid.

having a hardline to the caliper is a massive PITA when you need to change discs or pads or anything else for that matter.
After a couple of removals it won't seal properly either and you'll need new hardlines again - makes no sense IMHO.

A braided line made from the caliper (offset banjo) all the way round the strut to the hardline coming from the strut tower.
No more rubber hoses and no fixed hardlines Had these on mine for 3 years.

An old mate of mine got them made for me. IIRC was at a place called Motoscope up near us here in the NE. Any competent supplier of braided hoses and fittings will be able to make them up no problems.
I can't honestly remember the length of them, it's easy enough to measure though.
I'll see if I can measure mine sometime today "without" having to remove the wheel, I'm a little bit frightened of removing wheels now

              Approximation only at 48cm (480mm/19")

Would probably be best to whip a wheel off and measure the length of the existing hard and rubber lines and get a line made up to that if you plan on going that route, as the above was done laid on the floor with the wheel fully turned while trying to measure a non straight line

Whats wrong with the RS2 hardline to the caliper? RS2's seem to be doing ok with them. How often do you replace your pads and discs? every month?

Nothing is wrong with it except its a PITA compared to a braided line, i figure for the sake of a tenner why create the effort for yourself and risk damaging the line every time you need to do some work.
Maybe i just have to work on my car more often than anyone else

if u do a complete one piece braided line u should use the stock bracket that hold the old lines and add grommets to them(i've got 500 degree silicone military spec units on mine). Also it might be wise to put PTFE heat shrink or get the lines with PTFE on the exterior too. PTFE is what is on the inside of brake lines but it's also used to protect the braided line. Just because it's braided line, please don't assume it's better than the rubber line. I've seen issues here and there with braided lines. To each they're own with they're choices. Just make sure it doesn't rub on anything as the wheels turn. There is a chance that a factory audi rubber line might work with the setups. I haven't installed porsche brakes yet but i've got wilwoods on my coupe. I've noticed lines like so:

This being said when the wilwood come off and go on my other project and I swap over to porsche brakes I'm going to make my hard lines out of cunifer.
I chose not to choose life: I chose something else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who need reasons when you've got quattro?

Don't joke, I go through some DS2500s in 3 months Damned grooved discs

I rather eroniously managed to cross thread the union when reassembling my brakes a while ago, managed to clear it up with a tap but it wasn't a fun couple of days. The reason it happened was because the pipe was slightly bent and forced the union at an angle and I couldn't see the error due to access. I agree that the hard lines are perfectly adequate in terms of function but I think if I was buying for the first time again then braided would get my vote.

                            Puzzled

Right guys, I've had another look at this, took a wheel off this afternoon (out of the whole day, the skies opened for just 5 mins, just at the point that I was struggling to put the wheel back on... )....

...but I'm still confused (which is easily done )

The length of the flexi between the chassis and the short hardline is about 30cm. The short hardline, which goes round the back of the strut, is around 15cm, and then the flexi which runs from here to the stock caliper is about 25cm. So around 70cm all in. All measurements are approximate, of the stock lines, and include the connector ends.

The only way I can see the RS2 hardline fitting is in place of the stock hardline and the flexi to the caliper, but I cant see this being right as surely the caliper needs to be attached to a flexi hose so that it can move freely (and not flex a copper pipe).

The RS2 hardlines that I have (from Vagparts) measure approximately 45cm (each). The short flexi shown above is 16.5cm. So barely over 60cm all in.

So it seems like we're missing around 10cm, which is nearly 4" in old money...

Maybe this setup takes a different route with a shorter length (the stock routing does have lots of bends in it)?

Does anyone have a close-up pic of these lines in situ with a 996 caliper please?

with the type of hose jas is using you can get the pipe and fitting seperatly and make them your self to your needs. goodridge sell all sorts of fitting and differnt pipe specs a good stockist should be able to get them to you in no time. i used a place called the www.brakehoseshop.com hade my parts next day and made them up in half hour

@Clive - you are right and aren't going mad... The RS2 hardline takes place of S2 rigid line and flexi line. The purpose of this S2 flexi-line is to allow you to rotate the stock G60 caliper for pad renewal.

With the 996 caliper, pads don't get changed that way.

The other flexi hose from strut to inner wing provides the accomodation of movement of the strut relative to the body... There is no movement when driving of the caliper relative to the strut.
