Wanted to get some slotted or crossed drilled brakes for the 996 set up running 314 mm discs, would prefer slotted though
Can any bods out there point in me in the right direction on where the best place to get them from, and a rough idea on price may be.
Any ideas appreciated, and part nos for that matter

Sure Andy (Casey) had grooved discs on his 996 setup but from what I remember they ate brake pads. Would probably avoid a x-drilled setup due to cracking etc and to be honest you get very decent stopping power from a bog standard disc with those calipers and a good pad. I'd put the extra ÂŁÂŁÂŁ into the pads and get some ds2500
I have a pair of slotted A8 rotors which I used for barely a month before going to genuine Porsche cast "drilled" rotors with my 996 calipers, they've been sitting in my garage collecting dust and I'd be happy to pass them on to you at the most reasonable cost (also have genuine RS2 carriers for the 996's to pass to someone in need, which were removed at the same time as I had custom carriers made for the much bigger Porsche discs)
The only factor here is cost of shipping from Australia ! (Mind you, I got my 996 calipers sent from the U.K for a pretty reasonable price...)
No issues with the slotted rotors from anyone I've spoken to.... and my rears are slotted, but I certainly agree with the above regarding the DS2500's, they are profoundly better than the stock Porsche supplied pads
Yup, got through a set of front pads in less than 6 months! Going to try some plain discs this time. Got mine through BRY. Looking around for discs a while ago, they're about twice the cost of plain discs but for my money, just get some DS2500s and leave the plain discs on there.

Slotted discs increase pad wear and x-drilled are just for show IMO as they always crack around the holes.
As above save your money and get DS2500, always remember when Al C took me for a test drive in the Coupe with this setup and slammed on the brakes i nearly went through the windscreen
What a lot of absolute garbage !
The Bugatti Veyron employs "drilled rotors" and near every other serious high performance car, road and certainly track uses either slotted or perforated rotors.
Fact is slotted or cast perforated rotors offer greater prolonged braking ability due to increased thermal facilitation of cooling...

Yeah and how many people smoke cigarettes doesn't mean it's good does it because a lot of people do it.
This has been proven time and again and there are multiple threads on it.
Fact is x-drilled equals cracks around the drill points, I have never seen a set without cracks on the disks and for me waste of money.
On the grooved discs on my car the grooves have filled with brake pad material and are now ruined even though the discs aren't excessively worn. Stick with pads, circuit supplies and some DS2500s are the daddy IMO.

It comes down to what process and for what purpose with drilled and slotted. As far as drilled discs are concerned, as Jamo pointed out, they should give you money for it rather than taking more....just for show!! however as Error said, all the performance cars that have 'drilled' they are in fact cast holes so no stress concentration and no crack propogation, for these look no further than the brembo rotors fitted to various porsches. but bear in mind though, as Jamo said very few holes are cast, i'd say 95%+ are drilled.
As for grooves, these were originally made to release the gasses given off with organic pads to aid braking.....which they did, however most if not all performance pads are ceramic and therefore do not give off excessive gas so although you 'MAY' get uprated cooling from cross drilled and grooved discs, you cirtainly dont get improved braking and you always get encreased pad wear.
Basically comes down to: If your going to do it, do it right (cast holes) otherwise dont bother (plain discs)
