Porka calliper nipples threaded - help

Porka upgrade was all going swimmingly well and then ...

Nipple threaded ...

How to remove please as not gripping its thread to remove and now replace?

Cut top off and now stuck ....

Whats the next best step please ..

Oh dear... I ended up buying a replacement half-caliper when the same happened on my Hi-Spec calipers. However with the Porsche ones being monoblock that of course isn't possible.

can you weld a nail or something onto it?
ooh - just thought of something else that has worked for me in the past - using a centre punch on the edge of the sheared nipple and hammer it round in the un-doing direction, its amazing how well it works...!

Was very tight in and when it moved it kinda did that snap release thing and then threaded itself.

When I go to tighten or unwind it just spins?

So now need to work out how to remove remaining bit of nipple --- ideas?

Sounds like it's crossed and stripped the thread, your going to have to drill the nipple out and then helicoil it.

I will ask at work on Monday about this (I work for AP Racing, just not in the brakes secton). If it's just spinning and thus the threads are stripped then it will need completely drilling out and re-tapping. However, on a brake caliper that is not something you can just do ***** nilly. From a belt and braces point of view (and as a responsible engineer) I would think that it's scrap. However, I will check and see if we have any experience with it.

drill out the old nipple on a pedestal drill. Then drill and tap the hole for a larger nipple.

hmmm -- a helicoil might just do it but then the last thing one would want is it to go under pressure..

saying that as long as the replacemt nipple fits anf nips tight the that can only be but all good..

I spoke to someone at work today about this and yes you can helicoil it.

It needs to be done properly by a competent machine shop as any eccentricity between the helicoil and the sealing surface will mean that it will leak.

You've got a good starting point in that the bore of the bleed nipple will act as a perfect guide to getting everything concentric.

Keeping everything clean is also going to be a challenge. It might be worth taking the pistons out of the calipers once done as swarf etc may end up behind them.
