  • S2 saloon rear brakes

I'm looking for a rear brake upgrade. Seen quite some threads on the forum, all really interesting. We now have 996 4pot front calipers with S8 323mm disks. That's why I think the S4 B7 300mm rear upgrade I just saw, is too much compared to the front. So I decided to choose for S4 B5 calipers. As has been said a few times, they should just bolt on straight, without any adapters or sth. The saloon and avant rear suspension is 100% identical.

But I can't really find what disks to use - I saw some TT disks that were machined, 300mm disks machined back to 280mm, and I want to be 100% sure when I buy the calipers, there are no problems getting the right disks.

So who can say wich disks will certainly fit on an S2 saloon (or avant) with S4 B5 calipers? Thanks in advance!

Ah, just found... Sorry! 256mm TT discs with B5 S4 calipers should just fit right on if I get it right.

The B7 300mm upgrade doesn't throw off the bias like you might think - even compared to 323mm at the front. Two reasons for this -

      1. The master cylinder provides reduced hydraulic pressure to the rear brakes

      2. The rear B7 calipers are single piston setup - nothing like as efficient as 4-pots at the front

Hmm, that's interesting. I'd expect it to be little too agressive compared to the front, but the car hasn't made one single mile (there's still no engine in it at the moment, hope it's ready next week...) and so I cannot really judge the front brakes. I will look out for a S4 B7 set then, though the calipers are quite hard to find. I don't prefer new ones since the stealer asks about one zillion euro's for every screw you order, let alone bigger things. Thnx man!

By the way, why not just use the 5x112 300x22mm disks from the S4 itself?

Those are the ones... All bolt on - look up the 8E0 upgrade here. Those B7 S4 discs, calipers and carriers work on a B4.

Ok. I'm going to check what the dealer asks for the calipers, since I can't find them anywhere on the net (only one in the USA, but not really that cheap if you have to count shipping costs...).

I noticed. Well, the stock brakes are really not enough I think, expecially compared to the 996 front setup. So there has to come something new. I found two S4 B5 rear brakes voor 200 total, that's quite ok. But it's an investment you make once, and I don't want to buy the B5 brake calipers first and after a few months still switch to the B7's... That's something for me to think about. So far the S2 saloon project has gone way over 10000 euro's, then the question is if you really have to try to save a few bucks on good rear brakes. Always the same question, what's wise....

We stumbeled across some RS4 rear brakes when we bought a RS2 differential... have to clean up the disks a little, but they're as good as new. We also have the other parts, and it fits right away
