  • How to remove rear disc from RS2 ???

Ironically want to change back to S2 5 x112 hubs on my S2 Avant that came with RS2 brakes and hubs fitted when I bought it.

Can't stick the bad hand-brake and want to fit early 17" Avus rims. Also 5 x 112 gives a much wider wheel choice IMO.

Think I've got all of the bits, bar making up a spacer for the front RS2 caliper to fit over an S8 314mm disc, when using the standard RS2 caliper bracket.

I presume no one has done a batch of decent little 5mm spacers for such an application? I assume I'll have to buy slightly longer high tensile bolts to hold on the caliper.

I could buy the Ultimote.de custom caliper, but a bit dear?

For the time being I'm going to use standard S2 rear calipers and discs?

Now what I'd I was looking for was some advice on how to remove the RS2 rear disc off the back-plate of the RS2 hub? Want to be able to get at the inside of same to be able to disconnect the hand-brake cable, to be able to remove the hub assembly from the car.

I presume removing the hand-brake cable underneath the car, underneath the hand-brake lever s straightforward?

I haven't checked it just yet, but am I correct in thinking that the four driveshafts / outer CV joints are the same and I'l have no mismatches here?

Any comments or advices on any of the above are appreciated.

    Kind regards.

          David,

On the RS2, unlike most modern Audis, has single small set screw to keep the disc put when the caliper has been removed. Remove the set screw and then use a rubber mallet to slowly work the disc away from the hub. Then see the scans from the RS2 workbook. A picture is worth a thousand words right!

Hopefully this will get you moving on down the road!

                Tom,

Thanks for that. Will try it out tonight. At last a job where it is correct to hit it with a hammer. I'd say the shoes are "caught" in the wear inside the "drum".

                No worries Paul.

                Kind regards to you both.

                  Glad to help David.

If the adjuster hasn't seized, you should be able to retract the shoes by turning the adjuster through the access hole in the disc.
