Thats it they have to go

Thats it pissed off with these brakes, and am selling them, Corey you have a PM, if all is well then they will sell, i am only after £600 quid but to anyone here i recomend they dont buy them as i wasnt happy with them so i doubt you will be. They stop the car well but i do not like the spongyness in the pedal and am generally not that impressed. But hey i got them for a bargain.
I want a set of porsche monoblocks and the cheapest discs and pads possible as money after my bent valve catastrophy is scarce.
    Thankyou.
P.S. If anyone has a set of brakes for sale that go under the Avus 16" wheels for sale could you please let me know.
    Graham.

Spongy pedal is usually due to fluid. Has the car been bled properly and are you using the right fluid? Spongyness won't be cured by replacing disks and calipers unless you sort out the real problem. The calipers will only be at fault if the seals have gone and spongyness can also be due to perished lines dilating too much under pressure. Pads will completely alter the feel of the brakes too.

The fronts and rears have had over 2.5 litres of 5.1 through them, the lines are part stainless and the rubber sections are nearly new. The pedal is no where near as hard as the standard callipers i had on. I just want to drive the car for 2-3 months without having to Fuc* about every 2 weeks curing little problems.

Graham, I'm with lee on this one. Sponginess is due to air in the system or porr flexible pipes.
I have just re-bled the Mondeo Brakes and they are many times better and the car stops better as well.

The way to check the rubber hose is to get someone to press the brake pedal hard with the engine running and look for bulging. If there is no bulging, then bleed the brakes again. Or get a garage to do it.

It is important to bleed 4 and 6 pot calipers properly to avoid air traps. I don't want you to spend a fortune trying to fix something which may not be at fault Graham. Is 5.1 compatible with the seals in our system? Are your master cylinder seals sealing properly? Did you rebleed the clutch too (although this would manifest itself as a spongy clutch)? Your symptoms do not necessarily prognose a fault with the calipers, disks or pads yet without further checks.

I always had a bit of sponginess - which I thought I should not have with AP brakes and braided hoses - The only thing I can put it down to is cheapo 5.1 - I have some of the Castrol DOT 4 (IIRC - not the super expensive stuff) to try to see if this fixes it - of course I need the car to be running to see if it fixes it!

They go on flebay wednesday and at the moment i am looking at other options like possibly a set with full dust seals and maintenance free (relatively anyways) as i am getting sick of spending saturday mornings sat on the drive.
              lets hope they go.

NEVER assume that DOT5.1 is better than DOT4. They are different classifications but DOT4 is not necessarily inferior. I was told that DOT5 is not suitable for our cars but I have not investigated material compatibility in detail. I can thoroughly recomend Castrol Response Super DOT4 for anyone wanting high performance fluid on a budget. Not as good as SRF but good enough for most. I have used it on several trackdays and I never suffer fade or a spongy pedal. Let me know when your calipers go on fleebay, I'll take em off you for a quid starting bid!!

PS Ask Dan how hard I use my brakes on the track, then you will realise how good Super DOT 4 Castrol fluid really is!

No worries Graham, I tell you now that I will be watching them because I am still to be convinced that they are the cause of your problems. I am an AP Racing man through and through but I am still not convinced that your prognosis reflects poor calipers from bremsport. I am watching ebay like a hawk mate so make sure your reserve is high enough!!

Just a quick reminder chaps, DOT5 is silicon based and I personally have had bad problems with it over the years. Although it may not absorb water into the fluid it will not stop water getting in the cylinders and then you still get brake fade ( and rust) as there are globules of water in the system and water can be compressed. Never use silicon when you have any stainless steel components in your system. Silicon does not have any lubrication qualities with regard to Stainless and it will wear your rubbers faster than making love on a beach!

DOT 5.1 and DOT 5 are different animals. DOT 5 is a silicone based fluid and is not compatible with DOT 4. It is also notorious for eating seals on modern cars. I would not recommend it for use in the S2.

DOT 5.1 is an extension of DOT 4 with higher wet and dry boiling points. however, some fluids rated at DOT 4 will outperform some DOT 5.1 products. DOT 5.1 is backward compatible with DOT 3 and DOT 4 fluids and they can be mixed with no problems
