coupe to avant rear brake conversion

well i thought i would post up my results so far on this one. ever since seeing the work on rear brake upgrades by s2central and s2avant i have been wanting to have a rear brake upgrade to compliment the monoblock fronts. all stock atm so its all future upgrades.....

the issue i had is that the 300mm 8E0 upgrade doesnt fit the coupe due to the handbrake mech on the caliper not being compatable with the coupe.
the issue i had with the 280mm coupe upgrade is that i didnt like the idea of having to machine the discs each time.

with this in mind i began to think that the caliper itself must fit as the carriers are the same, and the handbrake lever would more than likely be the same so changing the cables and calipers over should make it all work.

after fitting it all i have come across 2 small problems.
    No.1
caliper do bolt on, however the avants brake line comes into the bottom of the caliper, the coupe it attaches at the top. a longer braided line would solve this with no real difficulty, or as i did, just swap them left to right. this means that to bleed te calipers they must be rempved which could be an issue but i will be getting braided lines soon enough.

    No.2
handbrake lever attachment is not 100% identical, the clips on the end are the same, however the distance between the hooks and where the outer sleeve mounts are different and the coupe does not have the required level of adjustment to compensate. this is hard to describe but i will try and get some pics of all of this. this issue is harder to fix as it will require some fabrication. i will make a femaile thread attached to male thread and use it as a sort of extention to the stock adjuster thread.

only other issue i had was the cable length, they are considerably longer however i believe that if they crossed ovr the rear diff, so left goes to right and vice versa then this coule be solved.

this is still a work in progress but when its finnished i hope to be able to produce an addaptor 'kit' with the brake lines and the adjuster extender.

bring on 300mm+ coupe rear brakes!!!!

This is what its all about

Experimentation, trial & error, engineering a solution.

Love the lateral thinking with the calliper/hand break cables swapping left for right.

    Keep up the good work

    cheers

would be interested in a simple fix/fabrication for the hbrake cable on the 8E0 calipers for Coupe, but even I found it easy and cheap to spin discs down to 280mm.

i agree that spinning the discs would be an easier solution, i did this since i had my exhaust/subframe off and i had a snapped cable anyway.

cheers for kind words Rich, although cant take credit for the left right swap, that was RE2500
