  • Big Reds + 323 Discs at last!

At last, after the big Reds have been festering in the garage for about a year, I finally got the space to fit them after fitting 17" S6 replica's.

    ..and they're superb!

    an another photo....

I was a bit dissapointed at the wheels, even though I quite like look now. When I bought them I was insistent that they had to be faithful to the original S2 shape. Not so when they arrived, more like new Avus.

Still my main fear was that my wife would clock the new wheels... which would not be good. Never noticed though... so close enough ! Unitl I went up to Fort William at the weekend....

first thing the mate said 'New wheels then!"

        Looking good

I'm surprised about the wheels though as the company said they did exact avus replicas and they show them on their website you have what that list as the s4 replicas. Have you aksed them what happened?

This could completely scupper my 17" wheel plan as I really want the 17" avus replcas.

No, I didn't ask... I was furious at first and then they grew on me, so I just left it at that. If I had been Midlands based, I would have made more about it. But I''ve ended up really liking them.

I really really wanted the S8 18" Avus as they would have been perfect and spent about a year trying to source from 'ebay.de' But finding them, successfully bidding for them, the cost of the spacers and the rubber put the cost at about £1100, which is a bridge too far at the moment. I had to either sell the the Porsche calipers or get them on the car... so these wheels had to do.

In saying that, I am really pleased the way it's turned out

Yeah, big difference in the braking ability and confidence in the brakes too. Eliminates any doubts that the pedal might fade to the floor !

Have you tried fitting your orignal avus centre caps on them?

I've got very similar wheels and the old centre caps help make them look more subtle.

Yeah, I did fit the original caps on... but after a while decided that they didn't quite look right to me. It's maybe because I was so used to seeing them on the original Avus wheels, that put me off I think.

I would have preferred exact copies or the original S8 version Avus in 18 ", but is was not to be.
