996 Upgrade Vs EBC/Red Dot Discs & Pads

I am in the process of putting my 1992 S2 Coupe back on the road and I am considering doing a brake upgrade and wondered if any one has any experiance of fitting the like of EBC or Red Dot std size discs & new pads with the orginal calipers, or is this a waist of hard earned money compared to fitting the 996 Porsche upgrade???

I am also thinking about fitting a set of 18" Avus wheels I have seen for sale - so a brake upgrade could incorperate the larger discs, when using these wheels does any one know if you can fit 245-45-18 tyres with out having to modify the suspension...

Lots of questions I know but any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Not even close, 996s are a LOT better Get some DS2500 pads and Brembo discs on there and you'll be amazed at the improvement.

Ive found EBC Premium Discs to be very good in the past, Brembos are also very good OEM discs.

I run 314mm A8 discs with Boxster S calipers. I have OE Discs and EBC Red Stuff Pads. and TBH i think they are pants. Go for the Proven Ferodo DS2500 Pads, as Rusty mentioned. The Porsche brakes are excellent but the pads can make or break the setup.

The Original g60 caliper setup can be made to work (as stiglet has) but it involves £200plus pads, and lots of air ducting, and it eats discs.

I use DS performance Pads and EBC Premium discs on my MK2 Golf and theyre excellent, even when cold.

I've just done a trackday on EBC Redstuff and they're shockingly bad in comparison to DS2500.

I used redstuff for a while and they weren't great, but they didn't fade nearly as much as some other pads I've tried and considering the price they aren't "too" bad.

Still, compared to the Pagid track pads they don't even come close. Pagid RS19's highly recomended if you do stick with the G60's Went round Bedford Autodrome all day and no fade whatsoever.

if you can find the calipers from a breakers, they dont need to be off a boxter s, any 996 911 calipers will do they are all the same caliper just different colours about £250-300 rs2 hardlines probably £100 pads are about £200-250 i think, disks are about £80 a pair then you will need the caliper carriers and new bolts rs2 carriers are about £80ish dont know if the seat ones are still as cheap, but pm bry on the forum he`s the "brake meister" and will probably sort you out with eveything you will need
