996 Brake upgrade which Pipes to use & WHY?

    Another dumb question;

Which are the "Best" option of brake pipes & why - to use when doing the brake upgrade with the 996 calipers etc....

Some threads say use the RS2 Solid pipes and others say use the Goodridge flexi ones.

I would have thought the Goodridge flexi ones would be the best option, I know I'm changing my RS2 to them

The rs2 parts are stupid IMO Brake line to rubber hose to brake line to rubber hose etcetc..

im going for Braided hoses all the way from the Abs unit on my rs2..

One thing i've learned we are way behind the Scandinavians!

So you will be going for super spongy brakes then ?

In case you are wondering what I mean all flexi hoses expand under pressure , even goodridge braided ones , less than standard ones granted but they still give.
If you run 4 foot of flexi hose from your abs unit you will have **** brakes as you have to over come the expansion of all that brake line before you get pressure and that is going to mean a lot of pedal travel.

Why do you think they use hard lines on the RS2 ?

        Because they could !
They could as the calliper does not move (slide) like a standard s2 calliper .

They use them because they are better, the less flexi you can have the better.

I have 996 brakes on mine and just to clarify it isn't “Brake line to rubber hose to brake line to rubber hose “
It is just brake line to short flexi from body to strut to brake line to calliper .

Witch is the best brake performance you can have as it has the least flexi.

Some would argue that this is a pain when you have to change disks or do work that involves removing the calliper, this does not bother me personally.

i have been helping people with rally-cars that have braided hoses from the abs unit to the rear brakes and no spongy feelings..

but an brakeline is harder ofcourse ...

I am not a mechanic but I guess from what you are saying that the RS2 hardline option is best!!

I could not understand how a fixed pipe system would work on a moving caliper.. Just me not being a mechanic

Yes the fixed pipe can't be used on a moving calliper, but the 996 is a fixed position brembo calliper that does not move.

Personally ive used the rs2 braided hose option. Its a bolt on kit and allows me to taked the caliper on and off as many times as i like without damaging the hose

But the caliper has to move with the wheel or you would never get round a corner?

To do the conversion using the RS2 hard line you use the standard flexi from the body to the strut.
On the standard set-up on the s2 it then goes round the strut with a little hard line then a flexi to calliper. You just remove the little hard line and flexi to calliper and replace with Rs2 hard line.
A little bending is needed to mate it up to the calliper but that's it.

                      I see - it's now making sense!!

Just picked up a set of 996 Calipers on Fleabay in the states for $300.00 (£180) so i will need to ger ordering all the other parts required!!!
