    993tt calipers and 323x30mm rotors

hey guys, i'm in the USA and it's hard to find info here on brake upgrades for the S2. I'm interested in running 993tt calipers with either 993tt rotor rings and a custom hat, or with S8 323x30mm rotors. I was wondering if anybody has got some info on the items i would need to achieve the correct rotor-in-the-caliper spacing.
    cheers!

Hey Joe, ( sounds like a song title )

    What car do you have?

If you have a USA Coupe it has 4 x 108 PCD. the A8 disk is 5 x 112. which will not fit.

See www.bira.org for more info. the site is a bit old now. Have a look at the Brakes section of this forum. I think there is a plan to make big disks in the usa to suit.

Coleman make custom Disks ( rotors).

I'm doing the S2 Conversion myself I have a CQ20V. If you use the EuroS8 disks they are easier to get ( and cheaper) than the hat route. Hats are meant to be used only twice!>

Stick with bits you can get easily is my suggestion!

As Greg said have a look in the Brakes section.

MartinJs has made some custom brackets for the 996 caliper which suit the 323mm disks. The RS2 used the RS2 brackets and 993TT calipers on 323mm disks. They were Porsche disks though and I don't know the offset of them!

I am talking to a parts company in the US about some 993tt calipers for me and am going to use the 323x30 disc with it...they also do the 928gts big black caliper for $274 each which is a steal. Big red price they quoted was $303 btw...

            Email:
Big red fronts are 303.19 each and the blacks are 274.70 each. Both are
a week away from us at this time. USPS shipping going 4-6 weeks is about
44.00 and taking 4-10 day is about 63.00 usually taking longer than what
they say it will take also. Parts have always gotten to their
destination, just later than expected. Thanks, Jeff.

Well, if you could get 993tt calipers and 996C2 calipers for the same price, which would you get?
I figure that, despite the extra weight, the 993tt caliper has the same piston sizes and nearly the same pad size as the 996tt. However, the 996C2 are monoblocks, lighter, stronger, and newer technology.

agree, monoblocks are the best but i wonder how much a 'normal' driver like me would notice between a mono block and a top end 4 pot anyhow....

Thought the RS2 was a 304mm disk as standard? Was the 323 disk the upgrade?

I may be wrong, but I believe the RS2 had the option of BigReds wrapping around 322mmx32mm porsche 993tt rotors.
Depending on the caliper, the RS2 bracket will allow for different rotor sizes:
                    968 caliper - 304mm rotor
                    993tt caliper - 322mm rotor
                    996C2 caliper - 314mm rotor

Someone please correct me if i am wrong!

Hi Leigh the 323mm disk was the bigger option as you say.

The 'normal' RS2 with the 968cs calipers used a 304 mm disk.

Joe was wanting to use 993TT calipers and I was making the point that the RS2 caliper brackets could be used with 323mm disks.

The main problem is the disk depth.

If the A8 disk is used I believe you have to uses spacer washers.

I believe some sort of shim is required between the bracket and the caliper to center it on the rotor. I've searched and only found 2 people who have done this upgrade and they didn't post many details on the process.

Martin JS made his own but I can't remember what his calipers were .

Anyway he made custom brackets to fit without spacers. They are nice brackets, I have a set.

Joe, more people come on the forum in the evening, you may get an answer then.

I made them to suit the 996 monoblock calipers, a couple of sizes also to suit whaterer disk is being used (from the A9/S8 range)

@ David...It's only the morning for me here! I'll be patient until later, but i'm just trying to kill some time at work and get the ball rolling with my brake upgrade.
@ Martin...thanks for the info. I've just placed an order on RS2 brackets, and I'm looking for a fairly simply set up with mostly OEM or OEM Replacement parts.

Martin, do you think that the 996C2 calipers are better than the 993tt calipers despite their heavier weight? I can get either for the same price and i'm trying to figure out what would be the best bang per dollar!
