Just wondering if the a8 discs can be re drilled to 4x108?
Just if so it would make installing a set of bigger brakes a bit cheaper but dont know if the a8 discs have enough meat to re drill, I have seen some five stud discs with 10 holes?
Hi all,
This thread is for my 1991 CQ which I purchased last summer in Burlington, VT.
In a slight deviation from previous project threads, I'd like to keep all discussion separate from the actual project thread. Please post all comments/questions/etc. over here...
Acidburn was talking of someone using ford discs insted as they are 4x108 already. I have never bothered asking more about this as I have no plans for a brake upgrade just now. But maybe he could pipe up now and tell us who done it or how it was done?

I know we scots have a reputation of being tight... but are you not taking the money saving a little too far???
At the end of the day BRAKES can save your life (or not) are you sure you wanna cut corners for A FEW QUID????
What if you sell the car to someone who has a young family..... would you take the resposability for them in a crash????

If you try to understand, what holds brake disk in place - you won't be so scared. It's the wheel, not the brake disk holes. Of course if you have spare money - you can spend it for S2/urq struts. But remember there's thin line between true safety, and paranoia. I prefer to take risks if I can fully understand them (sometimes even CAD analysis helps me there).

My thoughts were based around the fact if the manufacturer don't do them with that DP is there not a reason for it!! by drilling holes in the hub are you not infact weakening the overall structure of the disk???
I am not an engineer or a mechanic so I maybe talking total b**locks but lets just say you did this "conversion" and then they failed - on the off chance -and you totalled the car...
Could you resonably argue with the IC that "your" conversion didn't cause it....
Le S2 Audi-dont be sorry, I appreciate the input, I was thinking the disc is clamped by the wheel rather than stopped from rotating by the bolts, also I am talking about drilling the disc rather than the hub.
I wont be putting bigger brakes on tommorrow, just costing up options.
One of my mates has been working on turning a 4 stud hub into 5 stud but don't know how far he got, he was planning on fitting it to a cheap 20v cq etc and testing it out.
