    S2 Avant Rear Brake Discs

Well today has been a challenging day

Been getting the Coupe and Avant ready for retest ..and been one of those days were everything and anything has gone wrong ....But one of the jobs was rear discs on the Avant ..so I go to change them and the discs are siezed to the hubs I think?..Changed the rear discs on the A4 last month and they were the whole assembly (bearing and all )...So just making sure I have not missed something that they are not one unit ?..they dont look it but dont want to hammer the **** out the disc and end up screwing the bearing

    Cheers

the rear discs are held with a screw to the hub, often the disc is sitting pretty good because of the handbrake, an edge is on the inside of the handbrake mechanism because of the handbrake tears down the disc and it also rusts were you dont use it, so a good whack with the hammer would "force" the handbrake parts over the inner edge ..

Hard to describe on english fo rme though

One thing i've learned we are way behind the Scandinavians!

Did mine not so long ago,the discs just mount onto the hub, nothing much holds them on until the wheel bolts are on.Remove the caliper and give the disc a damn good blat with a hammer,if the discs are knackered it doesn't really matter anyways.
Do not worry about the bearings they can easily take it.make sure you use plenty of cooper grease on the insides of the new disc, where it mounts to the hub.

Tbh steve I think this happened to my avant, ended up shattering the disc with the employment of said mashing hammer
But it got the booger off.You must have quite old discs that have corroded onto the hubs.

Only wheel bolts hold disc to hub on S2 Avant - sometimes they do rust on - big hammer required.

Be careful with the 8mm headed allen bolts that secure carrier to hub - they get mighty crusty - What I do is pick out worst of rust with a probe then make sure the tool is well engaged. I've had to cut one of these out before and I don't want to do it again.
