Help with stubborn brake carrier bolts.

Can anyone advise if you can get to the front brake carrier bolts with the wheels on full lock ? That is so that you can get the breaker bar outside of the wheel arch ?

I have tried with the wheels straight, and just couldnt get the leverage needed. Also cant get a very long breaker bar in place.

I need these off so that I can get new discs and pads on for the MOT.

    Thanks in advance.

Yeah you can get at them with full lock. You'll need a long ratchet handle or breaker bar though, they are fooking tight a will have sized almost solid.
I used my biggest 1/2" torque wrench, that did the job fine.
Make sure you use a 6 point socket and not a 12 otherwise it will be bye bye.

You can try a shorter bar, or use a longer extension on the end so you can do it at 90degree angle with the wheels straight.
It should be doable, also try using plenty of wd40 to penetrate the threads before hand.

      Good luck

get another jack under a smaller handle and jack it till undoes, always worked for me.

Best trick I find is indeed to turn wheel onto full lock then go carefully with a breaker bar... Those boogers are tight and often threadlocked - good neat fitting sockets are well recommended here. If you ring one of these you are having a bad day.

Thanks for all the advice , will have a go at it again later. What was worrying when I had the car jacked up it seems that the calipers have been rubbing against the inside of the disc !!!

I was told it failed the MOT due to excessive pitting, but damage is really quite worrying.

Has anyone else had this problem ? It is both sides, ie both front discs have damage to the inside, or back of the disc !
