  • another disc option....

    Hi,

Just found a VW disc that may be of some use if you are looking for a 32mm thickness. The VW Passat W8 uses a 334x32mm disc with a 5x112pcd.

    Part numbers: 3B7 615 301 & 3B7 615 302 A

Worth a look if you are running a 30mm because of no 32mm option, no idea on cost but one to consider...

    Cheers,

    David

thought of you Greg when i stumbled over them on german ebay), no idea on hat height but maybe they are listed on ETKA or similar. Your local VW dealer might be able to get them in for you to look at, my local VAG dealer sourced some 345mm for me to measure up with (alas they didnt fit)

      Good luck,

Oooooooooooohhhhhhhhh thats worth a serious look... 17" or larger rims required of course but its a nice prospect for off-the-shelf discs from the VAG family that could be the basis of a monster conversion with AP or Brembo calipers. Custom brackets would be needed of course, but thats not rocket science...

thats my thinking Paul - although my brembo calipers are going back onto ebay as they have ony one pad choice currently and EBC are not likely to produce anything for a good 6-8 months so they say...

So now back on the hunt for a set of 996 monos or something similar.

          Cheers,

Boxter S fronts or Turbo fronts I reckon at that size of disk.

Those look OK Joe, nice and shiny.

I have some silver, delivery mileage only calipers and they are very dull I'm afraid. I don't know whether to lacquer them for protection.

                  Turbo's only I'm afraid.

"S" will only go upto 30mm width.

The diameter is ok but just the thickness is a problem?

Diameter is not an issue, I am using these calipers (with a slight tweak) on 345mm discs but they will not fit a disc width of 32mm. The caliper in it's original guise uses a disc width of 28mm, you can squeeze a 30mm disc by machining 1mm off the face of each guide pin but you will not have enough room for the pad if the disc is 32mm wide.

Unless someone would care to prove me wrong?

Thats exactly what im doing paul. I have the calipers sitting at home with the brake fluid and ive been searching for suitable discs for a while now.

                          Thanks David,
These, as the seller stated, are from a 2004 996 with only 1000 miles on the calipers...Plus the pads come with the calipers, too...so I saved some $$ there too. I paid $450 US$ shipped!

Is it not possible to remove the pistons and turn 1mm off the face of each one?

Martin, the pistons seem to fully retract, if you machined the lip then the piston could pop behind the seal. The slot in the caliper may not be wide enough to allow it to take the disk.
