    Another Bomb related question

    Hi All!

    Long time

Everytime I press the brake pedal very hard, I get the warning come up. I can do a full journey braking normally and all is OK, its only on emergency stops, or, if stationaty and I press the pedal fast, warning also comes up.

    Bomb Test :

Test states "This results in a 'dead' pedal which will feel rock hard with no servo assistance."

The padel is hard (can only press it down 10%) and does not press down at all form the 1st pump (tried upto 30 pumps and same result). When engine is on, it allows me to press it half way down, and then slowly allows for the other half, while I feel a vibration through the pedal.

Whats the verdict? Bomb? PAS ?

Sounds like the bomb is emptying if you're feeling a vibration through the pedal. It will do this after the bomb test, needs to re-pressureise. Mine also did this due to the servo playing up, not done it for a while.

        Buy a new one

It leaks pressure and then the pump has to re-pressurise it, this normall happens quickly but a lealking or tired bomb will not do so and thus never fully recharges, this is why the pedal modulates, the assistance isn't constant.

Any ideas where to get a new one from? I fear its no longer sold

Also, how much of a pain is it to replace so I can judge weather to take my chances with a second hand one.

It's not too bad to replace on an ABY RHD, can't comment on other cars. I got mine from Belgium, can't remember the place now, was ÂŁ125 delivered.

Thank you gentlemen. Much cheaper than I imagined. All I need now is my VIN number and ready to order.

For those of you who have replaced the Bomb, did you need to replace any other parts in that region? Would be a shame to have it all working for a week and a pipe bursts etc..

Common sense required I think. All the pipes on mine seemed OK, no problems 2 years later.
