    Clearance question

Does any one know how much clearance there is between the propshaft rear diff flange and the floor of the car.
You might be wondering why i'm asking this in the brake section.
What i'd thought about doing was possibily mounting a brake disk on the propshaft flange and make a bracket to mount a spot calliper, to use as the handbrake.
I'm not sure if this is doable as i'm not sure of clearance and i cant look at my car as i'm at work in west africa

Could just clamp the prop shaft is a pair of shoes, like a drum brake.

I've thought about this also and i think it is very doable.
I like the idea of a single disk at the diff as it's maybe cheeper and i think making a hand brake cable to suit would be quite straight forward.

Only need a little disc in there, something off the back of a golf perhaps, 200mm or so and solid, could have it machined to minimum size and perhaps even lightened. Use a Golf rear calliper off a VR6 and suitable cable. Nice.

good idea however will you not need to lock the diff at same time so that if one wheel where a lose/slippy surface both wheels are locked? otherwise rules a open diff will apply... however this good idea, a light steel disc about 8mm would be all you'd need which could bolt on between a the cv and input shaft

I could be piddling in the wind here, but I'm fairly sure that a propshaft mounted brake for a handbrake isn't legal?
