  • ABS Sensor

OK - I've kind of fooked up my little ABS sensor replacement project.

I sprayed loads of WD40 over the sensor and went and did another job. When I came back, I thought I had sussed it as the sensor started to rotate and looked like it was going to pull out without too much bother. Finally gave it one last tug and off it came (ooo er!) - minus the aluminium cover! So I then attempted to remove that, but only managed to bend, break and generally mangle it! So now I have no ABS sensor and no way to insert a new one.

Can anyone provide an easy answer to how the hell I get the rest of the sensor out, and also the copper sleeve that is also in there? I need the car as a daily drive, so removing large suspension items and taking them somewhere really isn't an option for me.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I think the only way to remove ABS sensors is to break them

Thats what I've done, but I'm left with part of it stuck in the hole!

Total 'mare and totally normal... BTDT with Minnsy's car - had to remove the hub carriers and take to a local VAG specialist who drilled them out. They said it was very normal and actually rare that an original ABS sensor comes out the way you'd like.

So its the drill for you Kenny... DOn't overbore toomuch and make sure to order new copper sleeves for the sensor... And be advised that the connector type on the new rear ABS sensor does NOT match the factory fitted one so you have to splice the wiring under the rear seat.

if you take the propshaft out you can use a hammer and a bolt to hammer it out:read in to the bearing,it will became inside the bearing, but not in the bearing.put a new on with tare from wood on.......it will never stick together again.

Not what I wanted to hear, but I expected as much.
Any idea what size drill bit I'll need?
I've already got the copper sleeve, and I'd figured out that the connector was different. My one has a rectangular connector, whereas the existing one is round.
How hard is it to make at least one job on an S2 a doddle! Were Audi designers having a bad day when they did the S2. I bet they all had a chuckle, thinking "This'll f**k 'em in ten years time! We'll make this connector round and then change it to square once all the cars have sold!"

You nederlanders just get nicer weather than the brits (and much less roadsalt I guess) - especially folk like Kenny in the frozen tundra of Dumfries and beyond.

Yeah OK - Latvia might have slightly worse weather than "sunny" Dumfries, but I live about 30 miles from the wettest place in Britain! The Lake District! It rains a LOT.
