Brake caliper refurb by GT500 (Rob) *pic heavy*

Decided to get the rear calipers off my RS2 refurbed as they were looking a sorry state, as previous people had used GT500's services before I decided to go the same route. Mine had the usual corrosion problem behind the plate guides, causing the annoying rubbing sound as the pads couldn't disengage properly.

Much cheaper than sourcing a new set of calipers and turnaround time is fine (I was in no rush, but Rob could do it in a week if needed) I look forward to getting them back on the car and seeing how they go.

Excuse the amount of pictures but I think this is necessary to show the before and afters.

looks like there is still a lot of corrosion left in the corners. doesn't look like the seals have been replaced also, just masked up. more a make over than a refurb by the looks of it. sorry.

seals are in good condition. they were fully stripped and all corrosion blasted away. l paint them when reassembled. saves brake fluid going all over the new paint. yes there is a small amount of over spray on the dust seals but unless you are a passing spider its quite hard to see! thanks for the criticism? must try harder!

but hey, thats not rob fault is it, im sure he would have changed the seals if the owner of the calipers wanted it, right?!

                its not rocket science.
                I got mine acid dipped.
I then rebuilt with new seals and boots (and used the correct seal conditiong fluid).
Sprayed up with some good quality plasticote....
                and voila !!!
                piece of cake.....

                what's all the fuss about?

not saying the work is bad, just saying that i personally would want all the corrosion removing, new seals, new spring clips and backing plates and not the old ones going back on without any new rust preventative coating if i was having mine "refurbed". the comments were not intended to be critical of your work.

                        I agree, but.......

Some people do not want to or maybe don't trust themselves with stuff like this, so need a reputable place to get it done...

Those that can and want to do it themselves will do, I believe this is a good thread showing good work....

                          nice job
The metal has been pitted around the plates, its not been sprayed over its the finish of bare alloy after the corrrosion has been blasted off

Or, maybe gt500 could answer my ½year old pm, and smilers pm, as we both want our calipers sorted out..
