    Monoblocks - Refurbish - Replace

Just looking into options on my Monoblock 996 425/426 calipers and whether it's cheaper to replace or to refurbish them. They've been on the car for a while and work fine but I want to know what options are available to me on them. As I said in another thread, if I'd not got a set of 16" winter wheels then I'd upgrade to some 429/430 calipers and bigger discs.

I've found the following from ebay.de

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Porsche-996-Br...item35a5d00227

My German isn't so hot so a translation would be good, they're being sold as new and work out just under £600 for the pair. I guess mine are work £300 to someone looking to do a brake upgrade.

I've contacted GT500 as I remember he refurbiushes these calipers and would be interested if there are anoy other places to try.

its cheap to refurb them as long as you don't need new pistons or seals - which you shouldn't really if they're in good working order.
So really its a bead blast and a spray / powder coat so maybe £50 - £80 at a guess if you strip / rebuild them yourself

you seem to be pondering over more braking power. why not. its one way to scrub time off a lap for sure.

personally i wouldn't take them. my mate has a c2s 997. the brakes are big reds, maybe like those. they dont work as well as a 996 gt2 6 pot thats for sure. if your gonna do it go for big that makes a difference.

i understand the point of the 16" and fitment though. having said that you dont get winters so run the 17" all the time.

Yeah, you know how it is, always something to tempt you!

I agree, if I'm going to bother with an upgrade then I might as well make it worth while, thus I'll stik with the 425/6s for now, with DS2500s all round they really are all that I need at the mo. Perhaps with another 200bhp that'll be a different story but not an option (£) for now

If i wasn't ever going to use my s2 for multiple consecutive laps on the 'ring or track use i'd have stuck with 996's. I think.

I know GT500 refurb's 996 callipers, might be worth giving him a shout if you just want to send them off and get them back in perfect condition.
