  • Rear Caliper Seals

Been going thru the family album tonight and found this info worth saving as a sticky.

Factory rear caliper on S2 uses 38mm pistons - a very common Girling size across the VAG range. Seal kit as follows -

    S2 & other 38mm for solid discs - 8D0 698 671

But on the UR quattro we have a different seal kit which I suspect includes additional seals for reconditioning the handbrake mechanism as well...

    UR 38mm - for solid discs with Girling - 443 698 671
    RR 43mm - for vented discs - 447 698 671

On more modern rear vented calipers with 43mm pistons we have -

    Lucas 43mm for vented discs - 4D0 698 671

Using this info is a good way to spot which calipers are 38mm v 43mm

Don't forget that all caliper housings carry a 38 or 43 stamped into them for easy identification if they are clean enough.

As I Said There Is No Repair Parts For Hand Brake In Any Of The Kits So I Think They Are A Waste Of Money Imo

Why not just get the whole set from www.brakeparts.co.uk
as suggested in the other thread??

FWIW I have part of a rebuild kit in the garage with one of the handbrake lever seals in it, can get you the dims for it as its an off the shelf oil seal, nothing special.

Handbrake repair components seem to included in the Bigg Red kits on the Bay.
£23 or so for the pair.

Silly question, does that mean the RR engine UR had vented disks on the rear?

According to my good friend Kate, the answer is yes: 857615601 = 269 x 20 ventilated, which are also the C4 UrS(4, 6 and 6 plus) rear discs.

Nothing new there... But the hat height is waaaaaaay wrong for application on S2. RR calipers work on rear of S2 Coupe for 280mm vented upgrade.

Very interesting, begs the question why we aren't all buying up RR quattro rear brakes

...and why didnt Audi fit them to the S2 coupe
