Audi 100 URS4 front brake cage thingy??

Just bought some new rst replica alloy wheels for the old girl. Changed the rear wheel no problems, then came to the front to find there was a strange sort of protective cage thingy, which also seems to be attached (or rusted) to the disc. When the screw on this was removed the entire disc becomes loose, very weird system.
Anyway it's stopping the alloys from fitting. Can I get rid of these eyesores? They make alloys look like hub caps!

Are they like in these pics marked UFO discs

If so, I think they are part of the disc and cannot be removed. I used to have a UrS4 but mine was a later one without these so I could be wrong.

Yeah its an inside out disk, the bit you see supports the disk around the outside edge.

I think you'll need the struts from the S6 if you going to change.

The ufo style brakes aren't mean to be crap and some say the hp1's of a s6 are the same. If the hp's fair my s6 im going go ate calipers of a a4 with tt calliper carrers and current a6 discs for same stopping power for cheap

Could use standard a6/100 front struts and brakes, the 288mm are fairly good and used b5/6 a4's and most vw range, so also ability using bolt on brake upgrade for a4's, and just use pair 10mm spacers get wheel back out the arch.

to get rid of the horrid UFO setup you need to swop the struts complete for S6 ones with all the tir rods from the steering rack also if memory serves me right, whats one of the reasons i never modified my urs4 for any sort of power and put the motor in my A4 instead!

Even with new Audi disks and pads all round and race fluid the brakes were shocking IMO

All sounds like a lot of work just to get these alloys to fit! Arghhh! Anyone know of any brakes for sale?? lol or 100s breaking?
Are the discs I've got 288mm?

no the UFO`s are actually very big at 310mm "UFO" inverted setup, later S6 had normal disks and were 314mm

Also could I not just put spacers on the ufo discs?

erm, why dont the alloys "fit"?

shouldnt be a problem with the correct wheels

If they 310mm how come they are so infamously crap? Although they are adequate for my purposes and there's no lip on the disc or anything..

The cage bit sticks out too much and stops the alloy fitting flush
