    288mm rear brakes

Have been thinking about upgrading my standard brakes for a while, and thinking going 312mm fronts using current a6 discs with the 312mm ate carriers and a4 ate calipers when ever get round to going 5 stud, but one things I want to do is have balanced braking.

So my idea for last while has been to use 100/a6/a4 solid 288mm front discs machined down from 15mm to 10mm and then use a bracket to space the standard carrier out by the 21.5mm and take up the change in offset of 6mm. Reason for staying solid is that the rears in my opinion probably don't get too hot, judging by how they rust up and the pads take so long to wear, making me think no need go vented just suitability bigger to maintain balance with the fronts.

I made a simple drawing in solid works, the bracket would bolt to the hub using a M10 (10.9 grade) bolts and nuts as my design attaches the bracket on the side the bolt head would normally bear on the bearing carrier and then spaces the calliper carrier out to be inline the new disc

and the disc that would be used

The design has be worked on with me planing to use s2 hubs so if anyone is interested and could be possible to organise a group buy or something

Check my '8E0 rear upgrade' thread - 280mm vented disc is available for bolt-on for less hassle on rear of a B3Q.

You can go to 300mm with more exotic calipers on B4Q.

I am waiting news on whether a 310mm version will also work for both B3Q and B4Q.

Can get enough heat into a vented disk on the road is the thing, or is possible to get a softer pad which will make more heat and be able work lower temps.
I know a coupe is heavier than a b3q saloon, which is what I'm thinking about, also my brake aspiration aren't very major only thinking single piston on the front, which is reflected by where I'll be driving and the way I drive as I tend drive using the engine for most of my braking way before the corner cause I'm big wuss. Also I have no plans go on track days, mainly due lack tracks locally. Just want sharper brakes for when need use them and want balance so car doesn't dive and plough straight on during heavy sessions.
For example the mk1 rs focus uses a 324mm front disc with brembos and 280mm solid 10mm thick rear disc as aimed at being a fast road car along with feel and handling being the main objects, which is the direction my 90 is going as that sort of driving puts smile my face and also due lack anything locally better a A road and even about here their no better than B roads for most part.

I see your point... but most folk want that extra performance from a good vented disc - admittedly the benefit is reduced at the rear - especially if just tootling around.
