Upgrade brake pads for HP2 brakes, what is available?

Yet another daft question from Shane...

The HP2 caliper on the S6 (and also on the D2 S8 and the B5 S4 AFAIK) uses 4 small pads per side so a total of 8 on the front axle.

Ferodo part number FDB 985 is no longer listed in their catalogue and cross references the following part numbers:

AUDI OEM : 4A0698451B This is the S6 part number from KATE
    AUDI OEM : 4D0615115
    AUDI OEM : 4D0615116B
    AUDI OEM : 4D0615116C
    AUDI OEM : 4D0698151
    AUDI OEM : 4D0698151A
    AUDI OEM : 4D0698151E

Even if it was available it's not the DS2500 friction material as far as I can see. These people seem to have some in stock but I haven't a clue what's written on the website.

So without spending on an aftermarket brake setup what do other people use?

Mintex M1155 is available which I'll probably try if I don't find anything else.

EBC yellowstuff is available http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/det...2R&PID=1286157 but I've never found any friction / temperature curve from EBC so I wouldn't be too fond of them.

Any other suggestions for pulling up these tanks?

That's good to know, I can't say the same about the pads on mine. There is certainly some fade when thrashed but I don't know which pads are in there. I will see about some OEM pads if no other tried & tested solution appears.

Bit off topic but does any one know if all the hp2 callipers across the board are the same, have the same strut connections and dimensions and use the same size disk?

I would be interested to know whats in there some day you get a chance. Don't get me wrong there's not a lot wrong with the brake, but if I could trade some warm up for high temerature performance that'd be fine by me.

I've never had any of them in my hands yet but here's a few part numbers. They're all 30mm discs though some are 323mm and 321mm rather than 314mm but you probably knew that already.

4B0 615 108 Caliper Right is used on:

            urS6 with 314 x 30 disc

            4B0 615 107 A Caliper Left

            02-03 A6 / S6 / Avant Quattro 321 x 30 disc

            01-02 Passat 4 Motion 321 x 30 disc
            03-03 Passat 4 Motion 321 x 30 disc

My version of KATE is only up to date to 2003 hence everything stops there. In conclusion there are 3 types of HP2 caliper up to 2003.

Thanks Shane, that's some useful info. Im trying to determine if the 6 pot Cayenne 123 H / 124 H or 18ZR/ZL caliper would fit the D2 S8 struts with out to much effort.
I know they have been used on the S6 and S4 HP2 versions successfully.

I'd like to find a good pad and try a 321mm x 30mm disc under a stock 16" rim on the s2 with a HP2 caliper, for the fun.

How you planning on mounting the HP2 on the s2 strut?

That sounds like the setup the S2 should have had from the factory.

It doesn't look impossible, but it's not plug n play that's for sure.

Or get hold of a set of the "Special MTM/Hohenester/SMS Wheel bearing carriers for HP2 brake on the S2"

Picture lets you see where you need the get the caliper mounted anyway.

I've got Yellowstuff pads on the front (Redstuff on the back). I've never experienced fade or loss of brake performance (when gunning it); and this includes when I was belting from Stelvio to Davos. They sure smoked when I'd finished the run though!!
If I was going to pick holes, I'd say that they need to be warm before being 100% effective - just be aware of this when setting out in the morning.
