    i fink its the bomb!!

Hello, ok I now have a brake pedal that would be more suited to a morris marina!! I have had a look as to how to swap the bomb but have not found a post, can anyone point me in the right direction, I have had warning lights for AGES! Ta!

I never found them all that hard to remove. Possibly easier to get access from the underside and I expect anytime I have done one the rad was already removed.

Do you need a brake bomb ?

I would say a couple of hours is more than enough time to change one.

out of interest, does a dead bomb mean you have reduced assistance? My bomb is well shot but i've cured the symptoms by unplugging the servo pressure sensor
My breaks are really wooden with minimal bits, but they do really stop the car, just requires you to push the pedal HARD

It's the servo that provides the brake assistance.

The bomb is to provide emergency brake assistance in the event of engine failure

yup, thats what I thought I have replaced a couple of servos on these cars before. BUT I have read a few people comment that the brakes felt more responsive after fitting a new bomb - maybe becasue on a discharged bomb some of your pedal effort goes toward compressing the diaphragm and the little remaining gas in the bomb?

I got as far as cleaning up the spare before falling asleep! So the word here is that its the servo that is bust? The pedal is hard and emergency stop is rubbish, it's on big reds and that is the saving grace at the moment I think!
Been a busy week, and my other half is using the car all the time so I am in need of spending some time on my poor old wagon.
To be honest I didnt think it had a servo on! oops.

I'm not convinced, I have replaced faulty servos before and mine doesn't feel like the servo.
In my logic, a new bomb is putting 200 bar or whatever pressure it holds against the brake assistance circuit so will mean less pedal effort required.

I feel a bit daft cuz i didnt even notice a servo(after having the car for 4 years!), I always thought the power steering pump did the hydraulics for the brakes(its a 94 aby by the way). So you are inclined to the bomb then? Cars not back till sunday now so I'm in the dark till it gets back

In my experience when the servo goes the brake pedal is soft as butter and/or goes to the floor, with very little stopping power being generated. You can also often also feel the pump pulsing through the pedal.

Ah! That is not my situation at all, the pedal is firm with very little top play on it. Push on it and there is half inch to an inch before it bites, no pedal fade or drop, just wooden and not fierce.
