    Calipers

Hi All, i'm looking at getting some second hand calipers but not sure about identifying a suitable set based on the important part numbers. Can anyone link me to a relevant thread or (for example) advise whether a set with PN - 986 351 422 are any good? I was under the impression the popular 996's part numbers started with 996? Is this right?

    Cheers

    996 351 425 / 426 are what you need
986 351 425 / 426 are Boxster calipers and won't take a wide enough disc to make it worth effort.

Are 997 calipers any good to me? I've done a search on here but none are mentioned in any threads as far as I can see? Presumably they're no good? Any reason why? Cheers.

Check the part numbers as I know that early 997s came with 996.351.425/6.
Get pics and part numbers if you're not sure.

I have Bry's 425/6 314mm setup from a few years back. Allows the 16" Avus 6 spokes to be used and provides more than enough stopping power for a track like Combe or airfields with 100-40mph stops 3 times a lap - Winner!

I'm looking to move from the plain discs to some grooved. Give me a shout if you want some 314mm discs cheap.

Cheers And' but prob going to go 323 for max stoppage on the 996/7 set up. Going to ditch the 16's.

Fair enough but I doubt you'll ever notice it on the road and it's nice to have the 16s for winter duties. Happy to pop your eyeballs out in mine sometime, if you doubt te abilities of the mighty 314s!

If you're definitely ditching the 16s then go for 429/430 monos with larger discs and do it properly

                          They look familiar....

996-351-425 & 426 with A8 323mm, Bambridge Bracket, RS2 Hardlines is a tried and tested solution but you will need at least 17" alloys (18's if you are going for the Avus OEM looking wheels)...

I've got a set of 17" Competitions from an A6 V8 which i'm hoping to wear but having trouble finding someone to weld repair the kerb rash... Also got a set of 18" TT Sport reps that I can use until the 17's get mended. Anyone know where I can get the lip welded and the profile re-machined on my Comps? Need a proper job done on them due to the polished finish.
