    Other car multi-pot calipers

Walking to work today, I was brake-spotting as usual, and noticed a couple of cars that seemed to have proper brakes as standard. Anyone know anything about these? Any potential sources of cheap parts in this lot?!

Peugeot 406 Coupe - front calipers are small 4-pot Brembos, in black.
Alfa Romeo GT 3.0 V6 Coupe - front calipers are also 4-pots, but branded as Alfa Romeo, in Red.

Mercedes CLK (new shape), front brakes rather large 4-pots, in black.
Mercedes C-something saloon, front brakes rather small-looking (in relation to the size of the car) 4-pots on x-drilled discs.

VW Phateon V10 - furking huge 6-pot Calipers on some seriously large looking discs.

    I think I'm becoming a brake-nerd!

If you select one of the individual forum topics, e.g. Brakes & ABS there is an option at the top "Post New Thread".

Unfortunately, the Merc's brakes are heavy and not worthyof our cars, unless it's from an AMG E/S 55...those are beautiful monoblock 8-pot brembos...which i am going to fit to my car, repainted in black with a custom hat and gt3 rotor.
The phaeton uses brembos and 360mm rotors (heavy at 28+ pounds) i believe.

Unless they are brembo calipers, they are going to be at least 30% heavier and not able to withstand track temperatures.

            Damn dan b you too!?

I've been doing that lately and I noticed big ones on a newer model sport Volvo.
            Anybody seen the same?

yes, i noticed...some have brembo rears too and a separate single-pot for e-brake.

              i look at everyone's calipers all the time...sometimes I drool too =)

i'm definitely not a volvo connoisseur, but if i recall correctly, it was S60 R...with 330mm rotors front and rear...but the fronts are 4mm thicker.

The Jaguar sports model ( like the XJ6) has big red alloy 4 pots which are probably Brembo. I was looking at some inside 19 or 20" wheels. Biiiiig.

Noticed a Jag XK-R today with some rather tasty-looking multi-pot calipers front and rear, branded XK-R no less!

Also saw a Nissan Skyline-R, which had surprisingly small discs up front. Had some nice black 4-potters up front, and the matchin 2-pots at the back.

                      Oh god I'm a brake-spotter!

... Brembos are also fitted to Fiat Coupe 20V turbo, and a bit closer to home, the Seat Leon / Ibiza Cupra R. Will be fairly difficult to get these from a wrecker as the cars themselves are not very common - the Pug 406 Coupe only has Brembos on the 3.0 V6 models, the Fiat Coupe 20V turbo only have Brembos on certain LTD models. Looks like Porsche is still the favourite for donating massive stoppers, at least, virtually all current porkers are extremely well endowed...

then there's the focus rs, the sport megane, the odd Ferarri, some bmws use a branded version of the 986/boxster brembo caliper...

The MGF calipers are lug mounting. The lugs are long so that they bolt onto the original mounting holes. The disks are larger in diameter and it all works...

                              £200 a set at shows.
