    Noisy Monoblocks

Went down to Silverstone at the wk end to watch the Grand prix (fantastic) drive down no problems, but on the way home I got the dreaded brake noise, I can only discribe it as a low humming / resonating noise as if you rub your wet finger round a wine glass, it was only coming from the near side and disappeared for a while if I dabbed the brakes, drove me mad.
Now it is possible that its been like this for a while but you dont notice it driving round town as your on and off the brakes all the time,
So I stripped them down today to clean them but they weren't that bad, pads are in good condition (DS 2500), backing pads still stuck firmly on (no corrosion) and pistons moving freely, I allways use a dab of plastilube on all the parts, but the only thing I did notice is that a small lip had formed on the inside edge of the disk (only about 1/2 mm) so I've draw filled it off and cleaned it up as I think this could of been rubbing on the pads and causing the noise, reassembled and all is well but only time will tell.
Now reading through other theads it seams that this is a very common problem but dosnt seam to be a definitive answer as to why its happening.
PS. got there and back on one tank and averaged 30 mpg

I also have a squeal on the RS2. Haven't done anything about it yet. very annoying.

Was also at Silverstone at the weekend, but took the brother's diesel instead.
Saw this on the way out too (the chrome one): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFL3DcDb-Mc

Mine do this every now and again. It's a bit of an unknown but I have found that getting the brakes nice and hot with a few seriuous stops can postpone the recurrance of the problem. I'd suggest that old calipers, bedded in brakes and some form of damage/brake pad witness/pad material deposition etc. on the surface of the disc is the issue. It's perhaps a side effect of having a solid caliper and solid disc, rather than the floating discs that are fitted on more expensive brake upgrades. I need to replace or clean up my discs, as they have some serious pad material attached to them, and will re-evaluate after that...

They are the standard plastic drop links from the looks of it. Yep plastic. I have them on mine too.
