RS2 rear drilled brake disc options...

OK, so I've read every thread on the topic and I'm still confused. Some people are saying it's Audi or nothing, others that a 928 GTS rear drilled disc will work...

Currently, my only quote is £630 inc VAT for a pair of rear drilled discs from Audi. I have the 'big brake' upgrade.

    1) Is there anywhere else (will try TPS) to get genuine items? £400 a pair is about as much as I can bring myself to pay

    2) Other options? The only other I can see is the 928 GTS solid disc option, but is there not any reason I couldn't fit these - they don't have as many holes but I think I could live with that seeing as they are 5x cheaper:
Porsche 928 GTS drilled rear disc

    3) Upgrade options? For £630 I could probably get Boxster S rear monoblocks, VRS mounts and a pair of equivalent fitting porsche discs if such thing exists?

Hoping this can be a definitive thread on the matter... fronts seem a little easier, with the option to go for 911 965 front 1-piece discs at ~£140 each or buy a 2-piece 911 and re-mount the friction disc to the RS2 bell for similar price... or of course the GT3 upgrade ala Jamo.

    Cheers

I also spent last weekend looking for little red discs,
In the end i thought i would be better of just going standard with some of the quotes..
Got them from GSF but they still managed to give me the wrong pads.( stupid really i even thought they don't look right) took them back they said o yeah got me the right ones which when i got home was the wrong ones.
Sad thing is from what they said was once the discs they had were gone that would be it..

#although if it wasn't for this place i don't think i would have ever got the right ones.

      Hi Ross,

      I feel your frustration. BTDT.

Your 'genuine' options AFAIK are Audi, expensive, but look nice with all the holes.

      or,

      Original RS2/968 rear rotors 299mmx24mm
      Stock rotors without vent holes
      Porsche 951-352-041-01
      Audi 8A0 615 601C

You can also go Zimmerman, which are a little better these days with the painted hats and some holes for the 'go faster' look. (no holes are best for performance!)

I can't say if those GTS discs you mention fit or not. Give em a try?

      Cheers

Ross, the 928 ('86-95) rear disc will fit, 100% on that. However, Porsche did not offer a cross-drilled version of the rear disc from the factory. Zimmerman does produce a cross-drilled version, but as you have already seen, it does not have nearly as many holes as the factory RS2 version.

That being said your choices are......

OEM Audi RS2 rear disc (vented only)
OEM Audi RS2 rear disc (cross-drilled)
928 vented, but not cross-drilled rear disc (OEM or zimmy)
        Zimmerman's 928 cross-drilled disc.

              Ross,

Ultomot.de = partially drilled compared to the "sieve" oem ones, but @ €225.00.

                    Thanks guys

I've got a fair bit of corrosion on the inside of the rears, and a bit of a lip, so these may well need doing come MOT time in a couple of months. I'l like to stick with the stock look, but for that kinda $$$ saving I can probably live with a few less holes!

I got my one from a german guy off Ebay (KFZ Vierlbeck GMBH) but as I recall there wasn't much difference in the price against Audi.

If you buy the zimmermans paint the hats, they go rusty quickly but for me they were the best option to match my cross drilled gt3 fronts.

I would like to buy OEM RS2 but they are stupid money plus when your changing 4 calipers / discs / pads / hubs that kinda adds up

                          Hi,

Just to confirm that 928 GTS rear discs do fit on the RS2 without modification, you can get drilled versions (non Porsche) but they don't have the same number of holes. Work fine and no issues with rust...

I recently did the rear brake upgrade to Boxter S monoblocks with the above discs, brackets from VRS (top quality by the way..) and matching handbrake shoes from the 928 GTS and it all fits perfectly. Only thing to watch is the calliper bolts, you will need smaller ones or be ready to cut to size.

Now the car has monoblocks all round and no need to use audi parts for anything, all porsche partnumbers and prices and no corrosin issues....

If you need part numbers I can list them...

                          Good Luck

                          PAUL

Do the other 928 rear discs push the wheels out further or anything..
