986 is indeed Boxster, early 2.5/2.7 cars. Had a set of them before, use a 28mm disk i think vs 30mm on the 996 calipers. Dont bother with these, the 996 are better calipers and disk options are much simpler. I think the 986's can be used on a ur quattro to fit inside the original wheels.
Boxster S had the larger 996 calipers the same as the 911 c2. Some were black, some red, think the Boxster S were Red and the 911 had Black unless it was an S model.

cheers for that, would 986 351 421/422 fit the s2 and what is the diff between 996 and the 986
cheers.
986 calipers are as Error has said.. From a Bog standard Boxster... These are Normally Two Tone Black/Grey (You do See Some Red Ones From Later Cars)...
These fit the UR with a Bambridge Bracket, and aren't any use for an S2..
You want 996-351-425 & 996-351-426 From a Boxster S For The S2 & you can get 3 colours Red, Black or Silver..

You need 996-351-425/426, the 351 is VERY important as that means Front Calipers!!
There are a load been listed on ebay today for £380.00 Plus P&P in red...
You will also need to get the RS2 Copper Hardlines.... These can be made up or bought from Audi.
£300 - £350 is the going rate for calipers, depending on condition. Some like to charge more.
Other than the above, you need to alter the brake lines - cheapest way is to make up a short 90deg hardline to connect the caliper to your existing lower flexi line.
Otherwise you can get a custom lower flexi line made up with a banjo end to botl straight up to the caliper, or you can make up an RS2 style hardline all the way to the strut - not the best solution in my opinion as you have to remove the brake line to change the discs or you damage them moving the caliper - and then of course you need to bleed the brakes again.
Best long term solution IMHO is the custom flexi line with a banjo end. There are drawings on the forum of these
