    Electro/mechanical handbrake calipers

I appreciate that the control of these is by ecu and various sensors, but how do they work fundamentally? Are they permantly live?
The VAG ones appear to be a motorised version of a conventional caliper, although others appear to have a solenoid.
    Any links to more info?
    Thanks!

The attached SSP covers the Volkswagen electromechanical parking brake. It should give you an idea of how it works (or in the case of the Volkswagen Passat system doesn't work).

      Thanks Ben!
If only that first cartoon was true. Although I am pretty sure I have seen something similiar in the gearbox and ecu!
