    Doesnt look too healthy!!

What I thought was a winter wheel needing balancing appears to be a little more serious! I was shocked to see the inside face of the drivers side brake disc!

The outside is fine, showing little wear and there’s a good half an inch on the pads (I’ve got 996 monoblocks on so this is an A8 314x32mm rotor) Not had a chance to investigate yet and get the disc off, but I’m assuming that the inside pad must be stuck for the disc to get in this condition??!! Never seen anything like this before!!

    cheers

Funnily enough i'v just had my car on the ramps today and I have found that both front discs are look similar to yours. They are not as bad as yours at the minute but un checked and they soon will be. The pads only seem to be making contact with 50% of the disc . The front face of the discs are perfect.

Is it caused by the stone / dust shield not being fitted ?

See this a lot, and customers are shocked when you tell them the car has failed on discs- "but they are perfect!!!.." and then you show them the inside!!

Can't give a definate cause, seen it on cars with shields fitted/without, cars used daily/rarely, no sticking pad/pistons etc.

Had a daily driven 12k plus miles/year toyota in recently for its first MOT (3 yrs old.40k miles)and all 4 discs were in a worse condition- both sides!!

Toyota gave the customer a goodwill free discs/pads all round gesture and put it down to faulty components. car had no problems with sticking/seized calipers/sliders............

Cheers for the replies guys - it's weird that it's only one face thats effected - nearside inner face is fine Guess its not a good idea to drive around with the disc in that state!
