Modifying 996 rear calipers for front assembly?

I have a few millimeters left of my front pads and then I will need new pads, new discs and also refurbish the RS2 calipers. But I'm more keen on using the 996 calipers instead. Either the 996.351.425/426 OR 996.352.425/426.

Has anyone went down the route of using the rear 996 calipers as a front assembly? From pictures I've seen is looks like it would be possible to interchange the places of the bleeding screws and the "cross tube"? Otherwise bleeding of the system will get unnecessarily tricky.

There is a lot more rear calipers available and usually to a lower price, but perhaps the pistons are smaller as well??
    /Mike
