    Brake caliper casting numbers

Does anyone know whether calipers with the same casting number are always the same?

Or are different calipers built using parts with the same cast number?

I've got a brake caliper which has a casting number but no part number so just trying to identify it.

there is normally, depending on the manufacturer, have the vehicle number, followed by the specific caliper range and then a left and right handed number to give the handed version. Have a search through the forum for part numbers for calipers, it has been discussed a few times now

do you have any idea where they have come from?...

Well, it has the casting number 3232 2393 which ties in with several models, I've found reference to it on a website that shows that it is the same casting number as several models including:

      An S6: http://www.brakepartssuperstore.org....-uk/d4881.html

      S4: http://www.brakepartssuperstore.org....-uk/d4872.html

      Audi 200: http://www.brakepartssuperstore.org....-uk/d4423.html

      Audi 100: http://www.brakepartssuperstore.org....-uk/d4378.html

There aren't any other distinguishing marks so the casting number is all I have to go by.

      Thanks for the help.

I'm just concerned that there might be slight differences between calipers with the same casting numbers?

As it sounds like a rear caliper the piston size is also usually on the caliper. Look between the bleed nipple and the handbrake lever, it should be in a recess there. If its 41 43 then its most likely a Ur 20V/V8/Ur S4/6 rear! If the handbrake bracket is bolted on its an A8 version!

The reason it appears as 100/200 is that it was a very rare option for those models. The 200 20V would also have that caliper but we never got that over here in RHD at least!
