Rear brake discs - Mintex, Delphi, EBC or Padgid any good?

I've been looking out for a good supplier of 300mm rear discs for the coupe 280mm rear brake upgrade and wondered what people's experiences of different manufactureres were?

I'm leaning towards Mintex at the moment, but have also found well priced sources for Delphi, EBC and Padgid.

Does anyone have any good or bad experiences of these at all?

And on a side note does anyone know which forum member it was who was thinking of going into business refurbishing brake calipers? I know there was a recent thread but can't find it through searching.

Speak to Camskill about National Brakes. They might be able to get them made to the correct diameter as a mate is having some Vauxhall discs made specially for his Golf at no extra charge They're the people who do the grooved discs that I've got and did a recent thread about. They're pretty cheap and might save a few £ on machining too.

I'd be intrested in buying some discs Colesy, I've got the Urs4 rear calipers and will be picking the A8 carriers up next week so will be needing the discs shortly, will be no group buy but might get some discount?

I might be up for a set too, as I'm planning to do the same rear upgrade.

Mintex discs are £80 on camskill, I'll have to contact them tomorrow for details of custom discs to see how they compare price wise, if they're too expensive then I'd be able to get the 300mm discs turned down down locally for ~£20, might be able to get cheaper for more pairs. I can also get Borg & Beck S8 pads for ~£15 a set if any one is interested in these too.

So that'd be £115 for 280mm discs and pads + delivery. If we can get decent discs cheaper then it'd be less. Would be happy to organise this if you guys are interested.

Look through the national auto catalogue and see if anythings the right size.

Get the code, change n for p, call camskill, define grooves coating etc and.get good discs cheap

When I need new rear pads or discs, I think I'll be looking at this setup

                for a part number e.g. N1234 you change it to P1234GB where P = performance, G = groved and B = black anti-corrosion coating.

Is this National Brakes as in this lot: http://www.national-auto.co.uk/brake...catalogue.aspx

Going from their catalogue the 300mm x 22mm S4 rear discs are pn: "NBD 1666"

So "PBD 1666" would be the performance disc? And they'd be happy to modify the disc as a special order?

Cheers Rusty & Will, I'll call them tomorrow and see how I get on.

Thats the one! Add the G if you want grooved and B if you want the black coating.

Call Camskill and say you've heard about them from the forum, think they're becoming aware of us. Give them that code so PBD1666GB for example, tell them what grooves you want, 6, 8 or 12. you can also get drilled and grooved and drilled but not sure on the code.

They'll call up National-Auto and sort the order out. I got mine next day if you order before 11.30. comes direct from NA.

You have to buy "payment credits" through their website if its not on there, but they'll help you out, all very nice guys.

There was someone selling genuine S4 V8 300mm discs on eBay at £75 a pair as I would have bought them as and when I needed another set but mine was all good, so had be need too.
Just some finishing touches to do now

Just spoke to camskill and the NBD1666 discs are £75 inc VAT and they would be able to turn them down for £35.

The performance versions would be ~£100 more.

So back to the drawing board for me, the normal discs are about the same price as other options and I can have them turned down locally for less. It would be a lot less hassle to have them delivered ready to fit so they'd be a good option for some though.

Must be a rare disc Oh well, I'm sure you can still get a batch sorted easily enough. Are Brembos expensive?

Brembos are ~£98 on ebay, so probably a good option.

No worries Colesy, thanks for doing the ground work. Like you mention I can have the discs turned down on my freinds lathe for beer money so more than likely buy them over the net. Cheers
