Found a seller on ebay selling DOT 5.1 brake fluid for ~£5 per litre including shipping, it's motorbike brake fluid but should be fine for cars too. He's got auctions with buy it nows for up to 12 500ml bottles @ £29.99 which is the cheapest I could find on the net. Useful if anyone is planning on bleeding their brakes.
Don't be fooled into thinking this is good brake fluid because it is 5.1 as opposed to dot 4.
dot 5.1 has only a higher minimum boiling point than dot 4.
proper high performance dot 4 has a much higher boiling point than the minimum requirement for dot 5.1 .
you will find you cheap dot 5.1 has boiling points of
DRY ----------------------- WET
270 °C (518 °F) --- 190 °C (374 °F)
Were as high performance brake fluid such as Motul RBF 600 has boiling points of
DRY -------------------- WET
312 °C / 593 °F --- 216 °C / 420 °F
