what is needed to remove ABS?

I'm going to be welding in my aby battery box under the back seats soon as I'd like the engine bay to be nice and roomy

what would I need to do to remove the ABS system all together? I dont like ABS anyway although it is good in the snow, but it doesnt snow enough to make me want to keep it

I know on my old saab I had to get a non abs master cylinder / servo and make some new pipes up

but what parts from which audi's would I need to do this to my S2?

    thanks for any help

Don't think the master cylinder will be any different, you will need some kind of bias or proportioning valve and then plumb it in of course. Have you checked with your insurance yet? They will probably not be very happy about this modification.

You do know that ABS removal is now an MOT failure?

And I don't think it will get through the M.O.T. without ABS - once it was originally fitted.

Just pipped at the post there Jamo!

The M.O.T law changed if a car was fitted with ABS from the factory which all S2's were then it needs to be present and working. Pratical Performance Car magazine has been doing features on the new MOT laws for a while now and they are still raging at some of the changes.

S2 master cylinder is fine. You need to make 2 brake circuits, 1 at the front and 1 through a bias valve to the rear. Luckily, the rear ABS circuit is a single line, so you'd only need to run a t piece on the front circuit.

Conventional thinking is that ABS is worse in snow and on gravel, as the locked wheel creates a wedge of material at the front of it, which acts to brake the car. On dry roads, braking performance is lower but it provides better stopping on wet roads and under both conditions, control of the car in an emergency situation is improved. For a road car, I'd just leave it on there.

Best compromise would be to fit the earlier ABS off a 3B or Cq which you can turn off

I just rang another mot place and he said if its fitted its got to work, if you wanted to change it to a non abs system there cant be one bit of abs system left on it but it would be an advisory that the car no longer has abs?

I said what about cars that had the abs removed before this new law and he asked what year the car was and didnt have a reply??

tar for the info rusty, its just when we had the snow the car stopped really well, yeah this could be a reason for keeping it but like I say when does it snow, and like you say its not supposed to work well in the snow anyway haha I'll just perfect my cadence braking technique

If the worst comes to worst I'll just argue with the mot man, if not just keep it as a trackday car, it spends most its time in the garage anyway

I just want a simple set up really n lose all the pipes n clutter

also its not like I get my car mot'd at vosa haha

If an ABS or ESC system has been intentionally
rendered inoperative, the whole system must be
removed. However, this does not apply to sensor
rings or other ABS components which are an
integral part of another component e.g. brake disc
                      or drive shaft.

do I need to find a vacuum assisted servo / master cylinder to be able to remove the bomb?

Is there not just a fuse or control unit that can be removed.

I have a plan = keep the ABS,spend all the time you would have spent on removing modulators and God knows what else you woukd need to remove, drinking beer and watching football. Removing the ABS has Got to be deemed a bloody totally, pointless exercise my friend...if you insist on removing it then maybe I could recommend this man... He's an excellent mechanic and really great with kids!

Clutter in the engine bay is a problem, but I agree with previous post. In an extreme emergency when one jumps on the brakes in panic braking, you will wish you had ABS. It may well save the car and lives.

This is especially true if brakes have been upgraded.
