Changing standard rear S2 Avant Discs and pads

When it comes to winding the piston back in, what type are they? And what tool is best for the job?

I know some Girling calipers are Allen Keys and others need tool 3131, but what are they on the S2 Avant?

It is standard S2 Avant setup.

Any other tips also warmly welcomed.

    Kind regards
    Ian

I just use a pair of pointy pliars in the notches and turn it that way. I actually have the vw tool but its more a nuisance than it worth.

Ah right, like the sounds of that, got several sets of long nose pliers.... I always get nervous when it says you must use VAG tool number x'de xx, or the world will end.

I have used pointy pliars (just dont slip and stab your hand as you can be pusing quite hard). Also used water pump pliars carefully to get a particularly sticky piston moving.

Make sure the piston turns in the seal ok, it can wind up and tear if it is stuck on the piston/rust in its groove.

You can get windback tools pretty cheap as well, starting about £15 on ebay. Or the cubes even cheaper but then you still have to push manually.

                I use this one:

                http://www.toolbox.co.uk/draper-2234...ign=GoogleBase

The 12mm hex calipers were only fitted to cars with 36mm calipers which stopped in 1989
