  • Removing RS2 parking brake cable

I bought a second hand rear housings/hubs/parking brake of the RS2 for the RS2 rear brake modification I am doing.

The caliper carriers I don't want to use them, as I bought them new.

Problem is I cannot separete the cable fron the rear RS2 caliper carriers.

I could brake the caliper carrier but then I would have the same problem to fit the cable to the new one.

As you can buy the cables separetely from the carrier from Audi there must be a way.

    See pictures for help.

    Thanks

At the cable end that attaches to the mechanism which spreads the parking brake shoes is a little pin. Drive this pin out & then slip the cable out thru the bracket. (As shown in picture #2)

Thought of that but as it seemed very difficult to push it through I did not want to force it.

Will use proffesional toos now (Big hammer )

          Thanks

Looking in the family album there is a repair kit for the end of the cable.

            8A0 698 585 retail @ £10.38 + VAT a side.

I'm not too familiar with RS2 rear brakes but it's item 8 in the diagram below.

A little penetrating fluid(WD40), a little patience, a big hammer & proper sized pin punch should do it.

                Got it out.

Use the old rear view mirror screw to punch it out.

10 minutes of hammering and it is all out now.

                Ben:
That strange piece you suggest came with all the parts I had

I don't know what it does. It hooks to the last part of picture 2 on top, no screws or anything.

Thats the bit that spreads the shoes when you pull on the handbrake. Make sure that it isnt siezed.

                    Tom,

                    It looks in good shape.

Just clean the rust out of it and looks perfect.

                    Thanks
