£300 for a set of X drilled discs for the RS2 is a cracking price.
I had new front standard discs & pads fitted just before I bought my RS2 and have done about 6,000 miles on them, but the rears are getting a bit worn.
What are the prices for pads?
Could you PM me how to contact your source
To be honest, Most OEM porsche pads are made either by textar or pagid.
Notice how similar the packaging looks and pads are identical.
Personally i recommend ferrodo Premier after speaking to their technical
    dept.
Discover Ferodo - the premium braking brand for pads, discs, shoes, linings and accessories. Now, you can keep control, even in the most extreme situations. With Ferodo, you're in control!

Coz i cant justify the very expensive DS2500 compound which is
£140 for fronts and £90 for rears
Ferrodo premier are £45 for fronts and £45 for rears inc vat.

Lee also has the DS2500s and the both of us will testify that they are simply far superior.

Put it this way: you've got what, in excess of 300BHP in a 1.6Ton car, which you presumably like to drive as it was intended. You're in the process of replacing/uprating the brakes anyway. For the sake of trying to save 80quid you want to sacrifice the difference between making that stop when that <insert random event> leaps out in front of you when you're tanking it, and NOT?

DS2500s every time from now on for me; my life is worth more than trying to save a few bob on a few pads.

Not only do the DS2500s have far superior braking power, they have fantastic cold bite, and good pedal feel. My opinion has been formed by comparing these pads directly against the Stock Textars, EBC Reds, and a combination of EBC Reds and Greens.

Totally agree with you. I'm on my second set now, and they are really good pads!

Hold ur horses boys . No-one is doubting the performance of the
DS2500. Its just my standard RS2 brakes have never failed me.
Obviously the DS2500 compound is new and was not their back in the
mid 90's. All i'm saying is i think they are overpriced at the moment.
I managed to work out a 25% discount on DS2500 Pads but, I had to
order sets of 10 What would i do with 10 sets

Hi Charlie - sorry, I've been tending to go off on one in the last few days

I can see why you don't want to order 10sets at once!

I often wonder what pad formulations go on new cars, as you're right, pad technology is always improving. I also wonder if, when a car manufacturer sends a car to be reviewed, e.g. on Top Gear, whether they do things like uprate the pads/tyres above waht would normally be installed to give it a better impression in testing? I'm sure car companies wouldn't install a DS2500 as a stock pad because of its price: they're in it to make money at the end of the day.

                  So this my plan:
I am going to fit the X-drilled discs all round - at this cracking price - big thanks to Charlie
Previously I was considering the Big Red 322mm upgrade, but that is big bucks!!
So to compensate for sticking with 304mm discs (which I have to say have never let me down in anyway) I am going to put the Ferrodo DS2500 pads on the front. If they are as good as everyone says this should compensate for the smaller size?
The cheapest I have seen the Ferrodo DS2500 pads for the RS2 is £130 incl Vat from here . Has anyone seem them cheaper elsewhere?
I will also get the same visual effect as the Big Reds and unless you get out your tape measure, difficult to tell apart
I will also sort out my handbrake at the same time with new shoes, springs etc. I had to do a very interesting hill start last week - fellow RS2 owners will know what I mean
What do you think of my plan?

I think your plan is perfectly acceptable! Afterall, I have upgraded my S2 brake spec to the 304mm disc, RS2/Porsche 968CS calipers with (now) Ferodos and it is a very good brake set up. The Ferodos are a significant improvement in braking performance. That seems a good price too, I paid close to £170 for my set including VAT and delivery. You won't be disappointed.

If you're getting new rear pads as well, maybe get the DS2500s on the back too? I think I saw a fitment for them for the RS2 rears when I was speccing mine up?

I today received delivery of 2litres of ATE Super Blue, so will be changing the brake fluid sometime soon: yet another thing to add to my task list!

Rear DS 2500 pads for the RS2 are £62.50 from the same supplier, which is not too bad.
Oh well for the sake of another £20 or so it would be daft not to

Drilled discs are fine to get rid of brake dust that usually packs up the open gap in the brake pads. When this gap packs up you get pad vibration and the typical "squeling" brake sounds.

                          Cheers,
                          Roger (with 322/299 drilled disks)

I'll admit that drilled discs remove dust, but grooved discs remove pad glaze & dust, and are better suited to track days, heavy road use etc. In my opinion, drilled holes in brake discs are nothing but stress raisers, therefore making the disc prone to failing.

Probably not an issue on Mr.Chav's 1.1 Popular Plus, but I wouldn't be happy to use them myself on my own car.

I've never seen any aircraft brake packs with holes in either, and don't rally cars stay away from drilled discs too?

I'll admit they look attractive and sporty, but as an engineer they make no sense to me.

Grooved discs are fine for track days, but a bit noisy for street use.
Porsche discs are not drilled btw. The holes are made in the casting process and not prone to cracking. Good enough for Porsche, good enough for me

I can confirm that grooved discs are very noisy. The harder you use them, the noisier they are. Well, the ones I had were anyway.
I'm sure I learnt that the drilled holes allow hot gases to escape from the surface of the disc, to allow better contact between disc and pad. Not just to reduce frictional surface area.
