    996 brake fitting question

    Wondered if anyone could help.

I am currently looking to fit a 996 upgrade kit. It came with a set of Goodridge brake lines for the RS2 which I have attached a picture of.

Have I got it totally wrong, or do these lines need to attach to each other as I have lined them up in the photo? If so, is it satisfactory to make the "female ends" join together with a fixing like this which I have found on ebay? The ebay ad mentions the fitting is 10mm x 1.0mm pitch. Would that be correct for the goodridge lines.

    Thanks in advance.

You only need 4 flexi lines on the front; 2 each side. I guess the other two are for the rear?
Anyway at the front, one runs from the hardline in the wheel arch to the strut, then one from the strut to the caliper. In the middle you can use the standard S2 hardline and bracket around the strut

I believe its the other way around, 2 lines per side at the back, and a single line at the front as the strut to the caliper is a hardline on the RS2.

Thanks for all the assistance. It makes sense now.

Have ordered a brake line wrench to help with the job, as I understand the brake line nuts are rather soft and can be easily rounded off.

Or they turn easy and you think 'Great' then the brake pipe snaps Spray with WD40 or some such product first

Been working on the brakes again.

I managed to get the old brake lines apart. They don't really want to be dismantled when they have been attached to each other for 18 years!

The brake line wrench I got off of ebay was excellent. As its head opens up you can get it around the brake line then on to the nut. As it grips all 6 flats of the nut, there seems very little risk of damaging or rounding the nut off. As it is ratcheted, you don't need to remove the tool until the nut is fully undone.

If anyone else is thinking of getting the brake lines apart, I can highly recommend it.

The springy clips between each brake line were in a bad way, and I am now just looking to source some new ones. Anyone know of a supplier, or other options for holding the lines firmly to the mounting points? I have read that its an MOT failure if the lines aren't secure.
